Anyone else get a recall in the mail?
Just received a "limited service campaign" notice about the ignition coil circuit board cracking under high temps.
Guess I'll be getting new ignition coils for free!
Hope they don't try to worm their way out of it because I have a wrapped header .

I had my coils replaced last week, all went well, took about 1/2 hour.
The problem is with the parts Scion put in the car, not something the consumer did, so I don't believe you will have any problem.
Now just waiting for Scion/Toyota to fix the oil consumption because of bad pistons/rings installed at the factory and stop hiding behind the restrictions in the TSB.
Good luck!

Got mine about a week ago. I plan to pull my Ebay coil and reinstall the defective OE, but probably not until after winter. My biggest reluctance is fear they'll scratch my paint again (or other) -- one bad experience out of one (an oil change no less) is enough !

sp2 I called my dealer before the letter arrived and they checked my VIN number, told me to just bring it in and they would replace the coils. Within a couple of days the letter arrived so I took it with me and they just handed it back.
So you shouldn't need the letter.

I called my dealer (Brown's Scion) and asked about getting replacement coils. I was told "no-problem", just schedule an appointment and they would order the coils and install them free. I made the appointment and 15 minutes after I dropped the car off they called to say that my car isn't eligible for replacement coils. WTF? Why couldn't they tell me that before I went to so much trouble?
Now I'm trying to find the actual TSB again. I've seen it before but can't remember where. I suspect that my early 2008 is covered by the TSB but can't be sure.

I just spoke with Scion corporate and they explained what's going on. For whatever reason my VIN was not included in the coil replacement recall. Since my XB is covered by the TSB but not the recall the only way for me to get new coils is if one or more coils fail first. Because I bought my XB in June 07 I believe it has the defective coils but perhaps because of it's age at the time the recall was issued, Scion excluded it. Then again, maybe it doesn't have the defective coils.
Anyway, I haven't had a coil fail yet so I can't complain too much. If nothing else I learned how Toyota handles TSBs. A TSB is only for the use of their dealer service departments and only applicable if the service dept. determines that it is and Toyota agrees. So if I went in with a bad coil and the service dept. concluded that it's failure was unrelated to the TSB, I'd have to pay for the replacement. Not sure I like that.
