just so everyone knows, the "k" stands for Kalvin, thats the heat of the bulb. The higher the Kalvin that it has, is going to be a different color. Here is the basic break down of the kalvin-color

3000k-golden yellow
4300k-super white
5000k-bright white with a small bit of blue tint
6000k-brightest light you can get (white with more bluish hue)
8000k-super blue
10000k-retarded blue
12000k-blue/green
14000k-green
30000k-pink/purple

4300k is the most visible light on the road in all conditions. 5000 comes a close second.

Truthfully, I like the way the pink/purple looks on the BSP, but I wouldn't prefer for it to be my driving light.

Out of all kelvin temperatures, the best color you can achieve is out of 4300k or 5000k with a bad a$$ color mod; but on projectors only. Reflectors don't bend the light like the cutoff shield does.

12k is not blue/green, 12k is blue/purple i have those hids. 10k is blue/white

Honestly I'm jealous...I questioned getting purple/violet HIDs for the longest time. I really wanted to get them but knew it just wasn't worth the attention from the popo. I went with 8k instead but I really like them.

If I had ordered my lights off of this chart, I'd be ____ed off because I'd have 8000k or 10,000k bulbs which are rediculously blue. This chart needs to be completely redone. Once you get over 10K you start getting purple.

4100-4300K is the most visible, and 5000k is nowhere near a close second.

The law requires that you NOT convert your stock halogen headlights to HID, but if you stay with 4300k (especially in California) and make sure they aren't aimed high enough to bother other drivers, then you shouldn't get hassled by Johnny Law.

Most states have something like this in their vehicle codes.

Modification of Vehicle Equipment

26101. No person shall sell or offer for sale for use upon or as part of the equipment of a vehicle, nor shall any person use upon a vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design or performance of any lighting equipment, safety glazing material, or other device, unless the modifying device meets the provisions of Section 26104. This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on authorized emergency vehicles.

Amended Sec. 26, Ch. 945, Stats. 1997. Effective January 1, 1998.


Section 26104 pertains to Required Laboratory Testing to meet the compliance requirements. Manufacturers don't go through this because of the extreme expense involved with the research and testing necessary to satisfy each states individual requirements. It's easier to just to use the disclaimer "For Off Road Use Only" or "Not Legal For Use On Public Roadways" or something like that and let the public do whatever they want.

ok xB guys, I have a few questions for ya and I feel as this is the easiest way for me to get a direct answer.

1. What HID bulb size fits on the 2gen xB? Is it the same as the tC's H3?
2. Where is the best place to mount the blasts?

uhh did you try to search? low beams are h11 i think highs are 9005, and I mounted my ballasts on the inner fender
