Default Coils took a dump!

So just got off the high way and my coils died! I guess there is a bulletin out on coils?

I got an 08 xb with 10,600 miles on it
If this keeps up this car has to go bye bye!~

The chance of that being the real issue is VERY SLIM at best. toyota coils are good for well over 100k miles. As a matter of fact, in almost 9 years at my shop, I don't remember replaceing a Toyota coil. My guess is that you have a cam or crank sensor fail on you. PLEASE let us know what actually happened when it is all done. At least it will be a warranty repair.

That just leaves more questions than anything else for me. I know you went to the dealer for warranty, and I can almost bet that they told you next to NOTHING as they always do. So my question is WHAT CAUSED THEM TO FAIL?

Did you recently change something? Add some new electronics? Add a ground wire set? What changed about your car if anything, just before this happened? (could have been up to a couple of months ago too) Cause I am telling you that Toyota coils don't just take a dump!!! Did you change your spark plugs to some sort of aftermarket plug to try to improve performance? Drive through a butt load of water that would have flooded the engine compartment? Something had to have changed.

I found nothing in my research on-line through several auto service sources about this kind of event. So did they give you any information as to what they "think" may have caused this to happen?

As for your code reader.... the coils died, then caused the O2 code, so that's not a big deal. But again, what caused the coils to fail?

ae86gts..... They are blowing smok up your tail pipe. That means that they don't know and since it was warranty and you didn't have to pay, that is the simple answer that makes you go away. BUT IT'S NOT THE TRUTH!

A Ford coil? You bet they are junk and we replace them almost every day at our shop. In over a decade, we have replaced "1" Toyota coil. Just one. And we work on Toyota & Lexus. As a matter of fact they make up almost 33% of our business.

I think you got a bad coil, or you had a poor connection to that coil, or the coil boot was split and they installed it anyway at the factory. The last 2 are the most likely causes. Sorry, but they don't "Just Fail". Hay, at least they replaced it and it's all good now.
