The oil filter is mostly concealed under plastic shrouding under the passenger side of the motor and tucked so close to the pan and other structures, that leverage is difficult. I used my plastic filter remover..pop..pop.pop..no grip, then the metal one..pop..pop..pop..no grip. Finally after a trip to autozone, I return with a channellock type oil filter tearer-offer contraption, and that finally got that filter off. Expect a battle getting that filter off bc the factory puts it on by machine and it's WAY too tight!

Did I mention that I had to pop off 2 plastic snaps off the bottom shroud and 3 snaps out of the passenger wheel well just to get the positional leverage necessary to get that filter off?

My pain= your gain. Have fun with that, my fellow Gen 2ers :-)
Ok thanks to 'idis144' for answering one of the first questions asked in 'Invertalon's thread.
I'm am wanting more opinions on 'idis144's assesment on the oil filter location & ease of R&Ring. (remove & replace). He said it was a motorf**ker & wasnt gonna lie!!!
LOL LOL

So.. has anyone got anything to add..??
Any tips? tricks?, shortcuts?..
Lets not continue the type of oil or fereqency debates....
lets concentrate on getting to the filter....
How did you get yours off?? & did all your used oil end up in the drip pan or get all over the driveway??
Thanks to all who reply.. How hard was it?? getting your oil filter off??

Woah this thread is old! haha

Anyway, the oil change on the xB is really easy. This is how I do it:

1.) Pull the car up on my ramps

2.) Lay newspaper under where oil may drip from oil filter

3.) Remove oil plug, let drain for 20mins or so. Clean the oil plug and put a new washer on it. Put the plug back on.

4.) Pop a few of those plastic tabs holding the plastic guard so access is easier to the filter. NOT needed, I just didn't want oil to drip on it when I removed the filter, so I just remove the clips, and just bend it out of the way.

5.) I remove the filter via a tool I picked up at autozone. It basically fits on a 3/8" socket, wraps around the filter to grip it, kinda like a claw. Removes all filters very easily. Once it begins to loosen, I do it by hand slowly until oil flows out and make sure it falls into the oil pan which I moved right under the filter.

6.) Wipe the access oil and ensure old oil filter gasket is not stuck to where the new filter will go.

7.) Pre-fill the oil filter and make sure to lube the gasket on the new filter. Hand tighten the new filter.

8.) Clean up underneath and refill with new oil. Start it up and get off the ramps. Shut off car and check oil level.

All done!
