Do you need to install the switch to watch DVD, or will just the parking break ground allow you to watch DVD. (trying to decide if I can do this one real quick prior to having the time to get behind the dash to do the rest)

Also, can you explain what each wire is that I am modifying ?

I assume the red wire is for a parking break ground?
What about the other 2?

if you only do the parking brake wire (the red one), it will play dvds without the parking brake on. But as soon as you hit 1 mph, the display will black out, unless you cut and switch the purple wire.

I bet you could use something like the PAC TR-7 to handle this.

I wish I had one available to try the TR-7 trigger module on it to see if it would bypass it like it does on the other Alpine decks. Anyone willing to try it out let me know :D

if you goto trdsparks.com, there is an installation manual that you can download that has pictures of the installation of the nav. It was very helpful for me.

so i completed this mod tonight... not hard at all, but i had to buy a new socket set, as i could not find my 10mm socket to remove the nav!

dvd, ipod, nav entry all work great while in motion (when the switch is on). then simply flip the switch to resume navigation... this mod is well worth the effort. now if only navigating through the ipod menus was faster... i have too many songs and too many artists and it causes the menu in the nav to scroll slowly...

thanks randode!

I most drive with the switch off. The navigation still tracks where you are, and you have all the functionality of the unit. Then when I want the naviation to direct me, I just simply flip the swith back on.

Can you take a picture of where you put the switch. I put mine next to the gear shifter.

yah... i put mine right next to the stabalizer? switch... also where the fog light switch will go (the set of three switches right to the left of the steering wheel. i simply used the excess of that green wire that randode had us cut, fished it over the steering wheel to the area behind the nav, connected one end to one end of the purple line, and one end to the purple line going to the nave and there you go, i produced a two foot extension of the purple line. it worked spledidly. pics shortly...

I am going to do this mod as soon as my sirius stuff gets here since I can do everything while only taking things apart one time. Where are you getting your switches from? I really want something that fits in the switch openings and looks like stock. I think I would prefer to use the switch location next to the gear shift. Anyway, any leads/links to getting a perfect fit switch post it up!

http://www.ittcannon.com/products/products.asp?pid=1027

tons of switches, not sure if any of them are able to be order by just buying one, but check it out tones of them.

i am thinking that you would have to buy these throgh someone like radio shack, but am not sure.

nope... sure you connected everything back ok? if anything is loose, it could be separating when in motion...
