CheapChic,

Have you driven the car yet ? I urge you to try it out. If you really like the car, seats and sunroof can be added. If you don't like it, then find the car you do. I am not the typical Scion buyer, but I have been impressed with everything I have seen in this car. Dollar wise, it is a feature ritch car that gets close to 30mpg on the highway. No, it's not a Lexus or high end car, and no one pretends that it is. But if you compare what comes standard on this car, you will see what a great value it is.

Just came back from the inlaws yesterday. 1 way trip is 1 1/2 hours. We have an auto as well as my wife didn't want to learn manual just yet. As stated, 70mph is below 3k. It's not buzzy at all. In fact, I'm pretty happy w/ the overall ride noise. It's pretty quiet compared to her previous car (Prius, but I think that's mainly due to the tires.) In addition, we had a 05 xB, and that was buzzy. The engine is quite quiet and seems also lazy as it doesn't struggle much. Just because it is a 4 speed has nothing to do w/ ride noise. I suggest you go and try it. If possible, try the 1st gen as well if you can. It's a big difference.

no doubt a good quality 5 speed auto would have been better, most likely better mileage at the very least. But I have had mine for 2 weeks and the 4sp is great. Plenty of power, no buzz and easy to drive... I will probably be annoyed when they add the 5sp auto, but love mine so no need for change

If you are referring to the automatic transmission, the subject of this thread, the FIT needs 5 speeds because its engine is so small. As a 2.4L 150 HP light econo-car, the xB2 has the power and torque to not need more than 4 auto speeds.

I highly doubt the original poster has even driven the new xB, because if she did, she would know the automatic is not buzzy at all. We've had our new xB for only a few days now, but everytime I drive it, I'm freakin amazed by it!
