Default Need to Know REAL WORLD MPG... ASAP... thanks

I am in the market for a new car within the next month or so. Finding a black xb is pretty hard right now, but it is in my top 5 list of cars. I know scion is adhering to new MPG guidelines for the 08 model.. so 22/28 should be pretty real-life mpg accurate... but.... I want to know from current 08 owners (don't care how many miles you have yet or if you are broken in)... what MPG are you getting?????

I just had a Nissan Sentra 2.0 CVT rental and the sticker is rated for 29/36. It drives pretty darm smooth, but guess what my average was?? 22.5 mpg!!!! That is SAD!!!

I don't mind getting 22.5 mpg.. but not when I should be getting about 30 all the time out of that car. I am hoping with the 08 xb that 25 or 26 all the time is a good bet. Thanks.

I've got just over 300 miles on my new XB and I'm getting 27-28 mpg in mostly city driving. Hope this helps.

So far, in 600 miles, I have been averaging 29 with mixed driving in my 5 speed. Not bad, but I did get 35 with my 06 box.

thanks guys. My uncle has the 2.4L in his 6 or 7 year old Camry.. he usually gets 30mpg all the time.. but the majority of his driving is HWY to and from work.

I have always heard that Nissan 4-bangers get miniscule amount better MPG then their V6's. But 22.5? That raises my eyebrows. 29/36 on the sticker is just a flat out lie.

Gas mileage varies so heavily with driving styles. I have been a bit shocked to see some of the mileage that people are getting. Until my xb gets delivered I am driving a 2000 grand prix GTP (v6, supercharged, for those who don't know). I am getting a solid 26 mpg with mixed hiway/city driving. This is in a car with a highway rating of 28. My xb better get better than that.

that's one of the other cars I am seriously looking at (2007 GTP). I used to have a regular 3.8 V6 and always got 25 mixed city/hwy. The engine is so reliable.. and the price may be "right" with Pontiac's $$ incentives and my GM money... we will see.. I go for a test drive later on today

(I am sort of infatuated with the heated seats.. that is a huge + in the Pontiac's favor)

one more question--- did you use Premium gas, or regular?

Always used premium with the supercharged engine. I had a fuel system issue once and that was the first question they asked me. I will miss the car, we have been together since it was brand new. Just time to move on to something different.

When I picked mine up the other night, I averaged 28.3 for the 100 mile trip. I made sure it was filled all the way before I left, then filled it up when I got back. That was at 65 MPH for most of the trip.

You are lucky that you are in Gaithersburg. Fitzmall has some great pricing.

I use Regular Unleaded btw.

When I talked to Fitzmall the other day, they had a BSP on order and due to arrive soon.

I am hoping one thing that helps me out is that most people seem to be going from less hp to more and enjoying that. In my case i will be losing quite a bit of the power and therefore not as inclined to play as I have been.

On a flat 6 mile stretch of concrete pavement with my cruise control set to 69mph constant with no air conditioning on I am achieving 35.5 mpg over that 6 mile stretch. I set the fuel computer to start the averaging at the beginning of that 6 mile stretch and record the averaged result at the end of that 6 mile stretch. Now I know most driving is not like I described but if you live in a rural area going on long highway drives with no traffic congestion expect at least low to mid 30s mpg.

BTW concrete pavements save fuel compared to asphalt pavements. Surfaces can have a big effect on mpg. If I drove at the same speed over hard beach sand I would expect less than 15mpg.

I wonder how good the old xB was at 69mph constant.

I would think that it would be a bit soon to see what the real mileage on the 08 would be. I am pretty sure it will get better as you break in the car. I thought it takes about 5000 miles to get to that point in fuel economy. Pretty sure nobody has driven that many miles yet. I would feel confidant that the mileage ratings on the window would be the best indication. It also seems like everybody's postings support that.
good luck with your process.
