I can't imagine it being too bad. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it just bolts up where the lights are. No drilling.
You have to cut a large hole in the headliner. I'll try to get around to scanning the instructions tonight and putting them up so you can see what I'm talking about.

Just to throw a little more confusion into the mix...
Sometime in the last couple of days the Scion dealers-only web site finally got a picture of the overhead box. Not a very good or detailed picture, but it does not match the pictures posted earlier in this thread. So I wonder if it has recently been redesigned? My dealer is ordering one so we can have a look at it. If I like it, it will go in my new 2008 xB.
Ordered the xB yesterday, expect it in 2-6 weeks. Teal, 5-speed manual, nav, XM, fog lights, and a few other odds and ends.
Drooling...

Mine showed up this morning (thanks trdsparks) Took less than 30 minutes to install,(pics to follow) the hardest part was getting up the nerve to make that first cut into my headliner, once you start, there's no turning back. The best advice, make sure the template is nice and flat, and centered per the instructions. That blue painters tape holds the template up nicely. I just used a pencil to mark the headliner (slip once with a sharpie....) and a plain ol xacto knife for the cuts. Of course, while you're doing this, you may as well swap out the map light bulbs with leds like I forgot to.

Nice to hear it is not too bad lvbitwiz. I still have mine sitting in the box. Still unable to make the decision to cut the big hole. I'm afraid I won't like it and there is no going back as you said.
roykim, sorry I got the dang instructions scanned but have not put them up so I can link them here yet.

The console is a good idea. Dont store small stuff up there tho, it will slide around. It is great for cd holders, garage door openers and such.
We put one in our demo xb and it is great, no distractions, looks right at home up there.

Ok that pic looks good. You've convinced me to put my console in lvbitwiz. :D
I have been contemplating this and looking at the Homelink mod somebody (Malibu Rapper maybe) did a while back. This console looks like the ideal place for a Homelink install.
And better late than never, here is the part of the instructions that shows the template use and what areas of the headliner have to be cut out. The dark shaded areas within the template have to be cut out. lvbitwiz gave a nice description of how he did that above. Other than this part it is pretty much a piece of cake.

You see that shaded part that looks like a fat L? cut that out first leaving the little square. Reach up insie and untabe the map light wires and move them forward, then you can safely cut out the rest without risking a knick.

Got kinda mixed feelings about it. Think I'll go take another look.
