I also have the creaking sound in the windshield/dash area.

I bought my 2nd gen xB in July and it was manufactured before the VIN # indicated in the TSB. I did not notice the creak at all until the colder winter months and, like others in this thread, I do not really notice it unless the road is bumpy and my radio is not turned on. So, I hesitate to ask for the fix of a minor annoyance from the dealer in light of the extensive disassembly required.

Can anyone tell me if this is something that will get worse with wear (I usually keep my cars for 7 to 10 years). If this isn't addressed, can it lead to structural problems that would be prevented by the fix?

Personaly I'm not goign to bother with it. I had the creak, and occasionaly I'll here it. But after i had my alarm installed and all the sensors and what not stuck in for it, the creak was 99% gone.

I believe the last six digits are sequential. So if the last six of your vin are before the cutoff, then you fall under the TSB.

Personally, my car has some creaks, squeaks, or rattles. Not sure if it's the A pillar problem. But I realize that it's a $16K car made up of thousands of parts driving on roads that are less than completely smooth. I'm not expecting complete silence in the cabin. I can live with it.

Me neither. Years ago I bought a new Nissan Sentra and the windshield wipers stopped working on the drive home from the dealership. I took it back and they fixed the wipers but left a primer-deep scratch in the painted metal cowl which they offered to 'fix' with some touch-up paint. Sadly, most of the people who work on our cars don't give a ____ because it isn't their car. I could go on and on about all the damage I've had done by various repair shops and dealerships on numerous cars over the past 25 years. I'll fix my own whenever I can.

Still, this TSB is a lot of work for a creak. I'll try to find a simpler fix and post it if I do. Unfortunately, my XB started creaking at 5000 miles and I find it very annoying. Just to check, mine creaks when I start the car, when I place it in gear (AT) and when I pull out. I don't really notice it at other times but it seems related to engine torque loading. Is this the same creak that others have?

So if our vin is after the tsb vin number and our car creaks do you think they will still fix it or not.

The dealer can't do that particular TSB, because Toyota/Scion wouldn't reimburse them if your car isn't in the VIN range. But they can still look for other causes under warranty.

I haven't had the squeak (yet) and I'm at 9k. I am curious though. How many with the squeak have the TRD sturt bar? Just thinking if it reduces body flex it may be inadvertantly preventing the squeak from manifesting itself.

I installed the TRD strut brace at about 3000 miles and I didn't have any creaking until about 5000 miles (7k now and creaking louder than ever). My creaking is related mainly to engine torque loading but creaks a little bit with braking too. The stut brace doesn't seem to have any effect on my XB's creaking noise.

Found a mistake on the posted TSB, under the punch directions...it states:

"dimple the sheet metal inward 0.5 mm (0.20 in.)"

.5mm is (0.02 in)...little bit-o-difference

Might make that clear when you take it in, as (0.2in) with a hammer & punch will make a nice hole, not a dimple...lol

So, has anyone had the TSB repair done?

Did it make any difference in the creak?

How long did the dealership keep your car?

Anybody know whether or not other problems, other than the creak, will show up if this repair is not completed?

It still seems like a lot of work to make a this repair.

OK mine was built after the VIN. But just this weekend after below zero weather I noticed a snap or creek from the pass side a piller area. I need to look through my glovebox and see if it is something in there. If not I guess I will be off to the dealer. I only have around 900 miles. That is sad. Can't even get 1000 miles on it w/o issues. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something in the glovebox.

so i got it fixed no more creaking form the pillar just from the center of my dash where my hu is i think cause the aftermarket unit might weigh more then the stocker but no scratches on my car and they even put touch up paint on the bolts to make them look pretty again lol

I noticed today that mine has the creak. I thought it was my radar detector, but I took it down and it was definitely there, coming from the pass. side A pillar. I will call them tomorrow and make an appointment.

Ok mine is outside of it. I am hoping that the noise goes away or ends up being something in the glovebox.

I am 0020XX. What do I need to do to induce the 'creek'?

I'm not wild about tearing off the front clip in an effort to fix a 'creek'.
