If Toyota would just tell us why towing is not recommended, then that issue could be addressed like with a towing package... and give us a maximum lb towing capacity.
There are trans coolers and higher rated springs/ available.
Maybe they have found the transmission will fry moving anything more than the rated load of the vehicle.
Or is this just a legal CYA in the case of someone trying to tow a loaded horse trailer up Pikes Peak?

Is there a Toyota tech rep that can answer this?

bingo. wasn't the 1st gen rated for towing?

i plan on putting a hitch on mine and picking up a utility trailer to tow the bike or make runs to Home Depot. and if the wife lets me, a waverunner won't be far behind.

Not towing. Just needed more space for road trips.

You may not be towing; but keep in mind that the load capacity is still: 4105 lbs. GVWR, less vehicle weight of 3020 lbs. = 1085 lb. total weight for passengers, cargo, and that big diamond plate box and hitch carrier platform.

That said, it's the nicest looking hitch box I've ever seen.

Thanks! If you notice the box is notched on the top and lets the rear hatch clear. Just worked out that way!

I've talked to someone at Toyota about towing with the new xB. I'm actually in the process of selling my Tacoma and picking up an 09 manual xB. I plan on buying a small trailor to haul my CBR and the person I talked to said it should at least tow 1klbs like the camry.

Awesome.

I'm thinking about buying a Honda Ruckus scooter and I think MotoXXX's setup would work nicely for hauling it around. How much did that whole setup run you, if you don't mind me asking?

The only thing you're going to have to worry about there is tongue weight.

Class 2 hitch 119$, 1-1/4 to 2" adapter 28$, Rack 90$, Tool box 240$. The Class 2 hitch has a tongue weight of 350 lbs. You will have to use a small trailer to carry that Ruckus.

Class 2 hitch will carry a ruckus just fine. They weigh 180 or so without fluids, 210 with fluids. You'll still have room to haul other stuff too.

That is all good but try finding a 1-1/4 rack to put the bike on. You have to run a adapter to do so. I personaly would not put my bike on it.
