Default Toyota remote start

Who else got suckerd in to getting this? This system shuts down the engine as soon as the car is unlocked or the door is opened, useless I say! Can this feature be overridden so you can start the car remotely, get in, put the key in and drive away like a normal (much cheaper) system???????? If I would have known about this useless feature I never would have paid the ridiculas $500+ for it.

AFIK there is no way to change this. They did it for some kind of anti-liability reasons I'm sure.

I don't get it, so if the car is locked and you unlock it after starting the system it turns the engine off? What happens if you unlock first, then start the car?

You have to hit the lock button twice and hold it the third time to get the start and that is how the car gets locked. Also the system won't work if a door is open.

Yup. Turns out there are lots of stupid people in the US who use a remote start and walk away from their cars and then they end up getting stolen. The Toyota remote start makes it so you have to have the key to drive away. Thank the wonderful people who blame Toyota for getting their car stollen for this function.

That's wierd.....

I have an alarm with autostart, and I have a separate button to start they car, but it doesn't matter if the car is locked or not. I've never tried to start the car with the door open, but I know that after I started the car, when I open the door, the car stays on. The only thing you have to be careful of is if you auto start the car and press on the brake pedal BEFORE you put the key in, then yes the car will stop. You have to put the key in before you press on the brakes, which I think is a safety issue, but it shouldnt' be shutting the engine off when you unlock the car or open the door.

Yes that is how after market systems work and that is how I wish the toyota one worked. There has got to be a way to overide this, I'm just not smart enough to do it. Also it would be nice if these car dealer ****** would be up front with this info. It's bad enough these cheesy options are marked up 500 pct but then they withhold info that would have made me pass up this option from the get go. BASTARDS! Just venting!

who gets their car stolen with remote start? 1.. remote starts don't run forever.. they shut off after 10-15 minutes by default *can be programmed for a longer time up to i think 60 minutes* 2.. they have a brake shutdown switch when when the brake is pressed is shuts off...

i wish i had one so i could figure out how to elimnate that problem but i got the python 872 on my car...

i bet a diode in line with the unlock wire would prevent the pulse from disengaging the remote start.. now the doorpin.. well.. if it's not security and just remote start.. then you could just splice that wire into a 12v constant because if i'm not mistaken our doorpins are negative trigger.. which means they rest at 12v

Basically, along with what tC4me said, the Scion remote start is meant to turn the A/C or heater on from a distance so that your car gets cool/warm inside before you get in. This is stated on our website:

"When it's really cold or hot outside, start the engine from a distance and run the heating or air conditioning before you get in."

Slody4Futbol is thinking in the right direction but if I'm not mistaken the engine also shuts down if a key is inserted and /or turned. I quess this is to save you from stealing your own car if you remote start it from the inside?/?/

Slody4Futbol: Sadly, people do get their cars stolen using remote starts if they dont have their doors locked. Maybe not one of us. We would all most likely make sure the doors are locked if using one. But they do. Face it, quite a few people aren't that bright. And there are lots of people who are more than willing to take advantage of that.

Default Remote start and car theft are not related!

Enough of all the ignorant unhelpful comments!

Remote start has nothing to do with car theft! A properly installed remote start system shuts the engine down if the brake pedal is pressed before the key is inserted and turned on. Also, remote start does not unlock the steering so there is no way someone could drive off with your car without having the keys!

I have installed this remote engine start system and will be working on a bypass method to make it work properly. I welcome anyone else who may be interested in helping figure this out to colaborate with me to find a workable solution. I will start a new thread as soon as I have any progress.

Default New Thread for those interested

I started a new thread for those interested in following and or participating in developing a workable bypass for the Scion remote start shutdown problem.
