Default Traction Control Question

I want to know if what I'm experiencing is a problem with my XB or if this is normal. When I press the button to turn the Traction/Stability conrol off, I get the light on the dash letting me know that it's inactive. But it seems when I hit a certain speed, the traction control light on the dash turns off...I guess going back into active mode. Is this normal? Or should I take my car in to get it checked out?

Just curious as to why you would want to turn it off?

The owner's manual is not just for something to occupy the glove box

All kidding aside, I actually read through the manual after buying the xB and noticed that the traction control is set to return to "on" at 35 mph (I believe that was the speed). Also, Car and Driver's recent write up on it said the same as it impacted their testing at the track...or something like that.

For a vehicle with such a high center of gravity I don't think there's any good reason to want it off above 35 anyway. Safety first.

The VSC sucks......and yes I turned it off aswell and tried to drag it through a corner and all it did was turn back on and slow the car down. I understand the point of it and was trying to test the handling a lil. Also, I was leaving a Dealer show this past weekend and as I pulled up to the exit awaiting my chance to pull out in traffic, I saw my chance and tried to go. I had the wheel turned and I needed to take off pretty quick to merge in. The damn VSC prevented me from a quick take off. Next thing I know, I had cars coming up pretty quick! As I was trying to accelerate the car continued to pulse the brakes and slow it down.

That sucks not how you really want the system to work. I will have to ask our lead tech if there is a way to really turn it off.

Please do! And Please get back to me.....Ill say this aswell...it has been raining alot here lately and I took a corner pretty hard in the rain and it worked great. I made sure I had plenty of room and acellerated into the corner and as the front tires began to slip, I could feel the VSC kicking in and prevented a spin out. I think its a great thing to have, but I think it would suck if there is no way to turn it off without it turning back on by itself. Say if someone wanted to autoX it...It would suck!

I take no responsibilty for anyone hurting themselves turning the trac/vsc off. Please be responsible when you drive. All we need is people rolling there xB's and raising car insurance for everyone else.

Very easy to turn it off.
You have to be at a dead stop.
Hold the Traction/VSC button down untill the vsc off light comes on.
There you go.
Be safe!!!

the stability control turns back on but the traction controll you are supposed to be able to turn of...and it will turn back on when you hit the button or turn the car off and on...thats what car and driveer said...and the manual...

Thanks for the info guys. Not really planning to drive with it off but just needed to know if my car was defective or if this was normal. As a matter of fact, it just saved me the other day. I was on the freeway doing about 75 mph along with everyone else going around a curve in the road when traffic drasticaly came to a stop. All you hear is tires screeching from cars all around. I had to slam my brakes as I was riding kind of close to the person in front. The system kicks in and brought me to a quick stop with me fully in control of my car. I came close to hitting the guy in front of me and so did the 300M next to me. Turned out that about 4 cars in front of me there was an accident involving 3 cars. If I would of been in my last car when that happened guaranteed I would of spun out and smashed up some cars.

Yeah it is deffinately a good thing to have....but I figured out how turn it off as I tested it again at lunch.
When you normally hit the switch and the light comes on to show that it is off, but only to have it automatically turn on by itself when you hit 30 MPH....Press and hold the button for about 5 seconds. the light will come on and you will see VSC OFF under the light.....

Can you just pull a fuse or anything? I can't imagine trying to track/auto-x it with the traction control in place.

yes the VSC stays off if you hold the button down at a dead stop. i have lots of fun with this coming out of my girlfriends house onto the dirt road
Planning to tighten up the suspension with springs and such and put rally tires on the beast.
