I'm glad you escaped okay in the close call It sounds like it was mostly ABS doing its good work though, rather than the VSC. The VSC that can be turned off is a little different.

Here are some video clips with VSC (ESC) demonstrations: http://www.iihs.org/research/topics/esc.html

I think the "VSC Off" switch is provided primarily so that you can turn it off when your wheel(s) get stuck in snow/mud, in which case VSC can get in the way of getting it unstuck. I read something about that in the manual.

After warching that video clip, I definately can say that's another part that saved me. My last car had no such system and had a few scary spin outs in it because I would come into a soft curve in the road and have to make a hard slow down or stop. Exactly like what happened to the black truck in the video. Just from that happening a few times I learned to be very careful coming into curves. With what happened in my XB2, I definately would of spun out if it wasn't for the stability control.

Cool. I too think VSC is a great technology that's genuinely useful. And there is nothing like a personal testimonial based on real life event. Thanks for sharing your experience. For one I'm glad that my xB comes with it...

(I am not necessarily for every such technology purported to make things safer, such as the linked/integrated brakes on motorcycles, my preferred ride. )
