I can't believe this. look where scion falls on the list, below average in reliability.

It's a JD Power test. Meaning, it's the most biased and pointless test anyone could possibly come up with.
Also, this has nothing directly related to reliability problems. They say out of 100 Scions, 243 had "problems". What they don't tell you, is what the problems are. One of the questions is in relation to brake dust, so if one of the 100 owners thinks the car produces too much brake dust, that is considered a 'Problem'.

The "problems" they count are people going to the dealer to report a "problem." So it usually doesn't matter what the "problem" is... but it would get logged as such. As Carbon said, they can be pretty dumb. Their windshield wipers could make noise or streak or something. They could say their engine is whistling under throttle. Doesn't matter.

Maybe Scion owners are reporting problems like sore muscles from constant smiling, tennis elbow from constantly waving at other scion owners, being harassed by curious bystanders, and confusion from quality service at the dealership.

The Truth About Cars is having a field day with this BS survey, also. Some of the other "PROBLEMS" include:
* tire noise (uh, you DO have to replace those eventually)
* brake noise (wow. your car is trying to tell you something, i.e. "sell me to someone with brain activity")
and, my favorite
* WINDOW FOGGING. Yeah, um, there's a button for that......and if that doesn't work, have you met my friend Windex?
So this isn't a measure of car reliability so much as which cars are more frequently driven by whiny, clueless idiots.
We should be GLAD that Scion's dropped on the list :D

I just noticed the CHEVY AVEO, of all godforsaken wrecks, made the "MOST DEPENDABLE" list. Aahahahahhahaha no.
That, in and of itself, should disqualify the survey from providing any useful information.
I have a better conclusion: Chevy Aveo are fully aware of what a piece of **** car they bought, and EXPECT things like power windows and the steering column to break, or are too cheap to get them fixed (which is why they bought aforementioned piece of **** in the first place), so they don't bring them in for service, thus not creating an "issue."
I hate this kind of data. At least Consumer Reports still kind of has a clue.

We need to know how they targeted their survey:
Large or small volume nameplate + survey distributed as a percentage of volume of sales = best possible representation.
Small volume nameplate + evenly distributed survey = more accurate representation.
Large volume nameplate + randomly distributed survey = more accurate representation.
Large volume nameplate + evenly distributed survey = less accurate representation.
Small volume nameplate + randomly distributed survey = less accurate representation.
Once we know how they distributed the surveys, we'd be able to draw better conclusions about the numbers.
