WHY buy a new 2008 xb ugly
#2
I am considering getting another 1st gen xB simply in case something "bad" happens to my "primary" box... It seems that for the xB, scion has left the "rural" market and are now trying to promote to a larger audience.
It seems that most complaints about the xB were addressed in the 2nd gen. people said it was too boxy so they made it rounded... people said it was too slow so the new one makes like 50% more HP than the current, etc... I live in manhattan so the new box, which is a foot longer, will be more difficult to find parking for... this may seem very unlikely but it's true. the current box is such a breeze to find parking for...
When I see it in person, I will give my final answer on if i like it or not. looking at pictures and looking at the specs of the new one, i dont like it.

I like the looks of the first gen A LOT better than the second gen. I like that the second gen has more saftey features. My wife and I are talking about trading in her 05 xB for an 08. I am keeping my 06 until it dies.

xB2 looks 'OK' but does not have the special qualities that made me buy the box. It is certainly a different car - bigger, rounder, slinkier. I could see a lot of people buying it, but not for the reasons I bought my xB.

The 2nd gen isn't necessarily "ugly" in my opinion, but it does leave much to be desired in stock form. The 1st gen, even bone stock, still has its own style that is unmistakeable. the 2nd gen just doesn't have that same "striking" appeal to me. It's ok, but it deffinitely needs modification to stand out.... most certainly a nice set of wheels and a decent drop.

Since I just got mine about 6 months ago, I'm certainly not going to go out and buy a Gen 2 in a month or two when they hit the dealers, but that doesn't mean I don't think they're a great looking car!
And its not really an apples-to-apples comparison even though one is the "replacement model"; they are obviously two very different vehicles, from body style to engine type...

08 xB styling
Hello fellow scion owners!
This is my first post and I haven't yet set up my account yet. I own a 04 xB Black Cherry Pearl with 18inch black rims and two tv's, amps ,subs, etc...I have tried to be objective in my opinions of the new xB but...The front nose of the car is too long. It looks like a typical minivan or american car even . It looks almost like the shape of a shoe. I do believe that Scion the corp responded in some ways to the needs for power etc. for many of the buyers/owners and have done a Great job at some of the interior upgrades including guages etc... I also think that the attempt to elongate the frame and the width was a great attempt toward progress also but...The body of the car is not very well cut in styling. I'll even take the back trunk door hatch bend but the nose is hideous. Our cars have the advantage of having a nicely cut body that is done so well that even without a body kit it looks aggressive. I do like most owners like the new version xB with the wheels and body kit but to most of the owners that can't afford one nor get it in the financing they will have to ride and make the others of us look bad for the new design WITHOUT the body kit. The xD is so nice looking that if I wasn't so hooked on the econobox style vehicle I would consider purchasing it. The xD is awesome again only WITH the wheels and kit installed. I also would be curious to know what is the largest wheel you can put on the new xB with those fenders being as they are. Can they fit 19's or 20's. I waited unobjectively just like most others here for the new model to be released and I'm giving it one last chance after I see it in person. But even then if I can't get it with the body kit installed at drive off I would never consider buying it. We 1st gen owners do have the advantage of keeping our cars and watching the value increase for those that want the aggressive short nose look. So let's give 2nd gen a chance and maybe scion executives will listen to our voice.

For everyone here who thinks that the 2nd gen xB is ugly, there are plenty of poeple out there who think the 1st gen xB is ugly and wonder why you bought one.
For a group who at first glance appears to be open-minded, you guys aure are narrow-minded concerning the 2nd gen xB.
I like both the 1st and 2nd gen xB, but won't buy either because I like the xD better.

Dang, Cant believe I'm only 1 of 3 that likes the 2G. Looks like crap stock, but modded I love it. That chopped rood and still very large storage capacity. Plus, lets not forget the added brake horspower up from 90 to 160.
Useing the tC engine xB's now have a chance to reach 190 hp and reamain N/A. I despise the output on the 1G xB's performance power wise. That is my number one complaint.
I have not seen what this 2G will cost, definatly interested in seeing some info one that.
I still love my xB, its a collector now
I just wish it had a little more go. Without strenous boost mods on my wallet and the motor. I cant wait to see what they come out with for a 3G!

Never gonna sell the box. That Doesn't mean I wouldn't buy 2nd gen, but they really are different cars and I'd have to drive a 2nd gen to see the difference. Unfortunately, if it's anything like when I bought my current box the dealer test drive basically didn't exist. My dealer had 2 customer cars on the lot and no test drive vehicles. I sat in one of the customer cars and ordered it right then and there. This is a terrific vehicle and I'm sure the 2nd gen will sell well.

Sort of a ridiculous query as the 1st generation is a completely different car and the 2nd only vaguely resembles it. Griping about it might be similar to griping about different models of mustangs or corvettes. Most 1st gen xb owners love their box because of the way it looks as well as other items, so the new one is nothing like it. Let it go. The new xb is a nice car in it's own if it has what you want in a car. When I bought mine, I was looking for a small car that got decent mileage and had good seating for my family. All the standard options were bonus for the price. I've had to make up for the lack of storage space by going rack, but that's what I wanted. The new xb is still a scion that will be well modded and adored by those who need/want it. The comparisons are silly at this point, but do give us something to read on the forum.

It seems logical to me that if you have 2 cars with the same name but are in completely different classes, people are going to prefer one over the other. If I favor fuel efficiency, space efficiency, and minimal style, then it is sensible to prefer xB1. Am I narrow-minded for thinking the xB2 would not be a viable replacement?

While I am a big fan of the classic xB, I don't really hate the 2nd gen. There is something personal and unique about the classic that can never be replaced. But for the love of all things holy, please change the name Scion! Call it the tC wagon, or some other xE or xF.
I think the problem that we are having is that it is the replacement for our beloved model. Call it an orange so we stop comparing it to our apples.

I'm not going to trade my OG xb in for one, but I'm hitting the dealer up as soon as they hit the lot to test drive one. I wasn't a huge fan of the xb at first, but hey look I own one now! The new xb is really starting to grow on me. Especialy the interior .
All I'm hoping for is no threads started on how to put bB badges on it
