I don't care about looks.

The things I was looking for in a car when I bought my xB are the things they changed in the xB2. If it had been the xB2 on the market in 2005, I probably would have bought a 2WD CR-V.

1st gen all the way. I don't like how rounded the 2nd gen looks; just doesn't seem like a real xb to me. I dislike the "tricked-out" version even more than the regular 2nd gen.

But the xd is purty I think. I'll keep my box for a while though.

I hope the current Bb model in japan is the 3rd gen xb. It looks MUCH better than what we got with this 2nd gen americanized model. it's too big, it really looks like a chevrolet uplander. it has a big nose. it's not worthy of being called a box anymore with the xb name.

I like the first gen but would never get one, the new one on the other hand I'd get.

First Gen... 103 hp and no hope for more than 150hp
Second Gen... 158 hp and all the options in the world to take it well over 200

Do I care about gas mileage? No! Will I ever? No! My choice... Second Gen!

My thoughts, too. The xB was good because it was an un-styled box. The xB2 is a conscious styling effort, and more than ugly, it's disturbing. I would have been pleased if Scion had made only three changes to the old xB: added side air bags, upped the engine to 1.8L, and integrated the front bumper more smoothly. Scion actually did something like this, only lost the boxiness, and called it the xD.

I really think you guys need to see it in person, before you judge it. The 2008 Xb is awesome. From the bigger engine to all the standard equipment you can not go wrong. I just hope the price doesn’t jump too much

looks wise - the tricked out metallic orange xb2 looks awesome. but i think the xB lost the most valuable thing it had going for it:

the fuel economy.

looks aside, the econobox is not an econobox anymore -well - at least not as economical. that's one of the reasons why i bought my current 06 xB since my second car is a hummer h2. i saw the xb2 at the ny auto show last week and i wasnt really too thrilled with it. the tricked out orange one looks awesome and i would totally buy one to mod it but since it uses more gas than my current box, im not going that route...

the cool thing i like about the new xB is the new dash/instrument layout. that's about it.

so, all in all, i really dont see myself wanting the new xB. i wanted a cheap econobox and i have one. im seriously going to keep this xB for as long as i can until the wheels fall off or the engine explodes. hahahaha.

I actually like both, but for opposite reasons. As someone said above, the 1st gen is a good small car that gets good gas mileage and has good passenger room. I like the 2nd gen because I like automatic trannys that allows you to shift on your own (like my last car), more trunk room so I can add a sub and still have room for groceries, has more power and is probably more "tuner" friendly and might be more "fun" to drive I might actually consider taking it to the track if I got the supercharger and wouldn't be laughed at as i pulled up to the starting line.

I think that alot of poeple are making much a do about nothing. Especially the Mileage with new 08 xB. From what I've seen on the 2.4L engine it's not great but it's not as bad as some are making it out to be. About similar to tC and New Camry.

Also to address styling it's subjective. I'm sure some aftermarketer may kind of address the front and maybe rearend issues. Also Scion may address this particular issue in MMC, depending on how well this model does in sales. Believe this if the 08 xB sucks in the marketplace as much as those complaining here think, you're going to see a slight redesign. And maybe a short shelf life before Gen 3. So stop plaining and let the marketplace be the decider.

I think it will do great. The new xB is UNMATCHED for standard features, i priced out several competitors with the same features and they all came out considerably more (more than $19k for a Mazda 3!) The Fit does come in a bit cheaper, by like $400, but it is WAY smaller, and although I really like it, I am not sure I would enjoy driving something so small/slow. Considering the xB makes the same HP numbers as the Camry, it probably carries the Camry tune and may get SLIGHTLY better mileage than the tC, but it will most likely be equal.

i like them both...as alot of members said, 1st & 2nd are pretty different cars. 1st gen is unique and like a signature for XB. But the redesigning interior, increasing in HP & more room are the things I longing for for the XB which they are all done on the 2nd gen.

Over on the MINI forums, they have a similar thing going with a debate between 1st gen (01-06) and 2nd gen (07) MINIs There are folks on the MINI forums who absolutely despise the 2nd gen MINI: All new engine, all new body panels, all new dash, larger interior, changes to the extreior, smoother suspension, turbo instead of SC, better fuel economy, etc. The funny thing (to me at least), is that anyone new to MINI probably wouldn't even notice the changes...lol I know I could hardly tell! MINI took some risks with the changes, but they were smart enough to know what NOT to change (the overall look and appeal).

As for the xB/xB2 changes - it's night and day - completely different overall look and appeal. Theyy 2 completely different cars for completely different needs and tastes. I'm kind of dissapponted with the direction Scion went. I would like to have seen something smaller and still boxy. Oh well, it's not the end of the world.

I don't think there would as much fuss if the xB2 just had a different name!

Funny, I saw a report that said even tho it doesn't look any different, the Mini is completely new. I didn't read it, and figured I'd see a post over here going, "LOOK! BMW got it right! All new technology, same old look! Why can't Scion be like BMW? Whaaaaaaa!"

I wasn't hoping for the "same old look" just something similar in size, shape and function like what Toyota did the New bB. I didn't expect Scion go in such a different direction.

I actually like the xB2 in concept. I'd even consider buying one if I had kids and lived in the suburbs. The only thing that I dislike is the exterior. I guess Scion really wanted to have all 3 models share the same design language, but it looks kinda forced. (No one can say I'm closed-minded because I'm one of the few who liked the New bB exterior! lol)
