window crack
#5
The crack on mine started at the top under the rubber molding on the driver’s side and continued downwards across towards the passenger side. I took my xB to the dealer and they said they didn't see any signs of impact and that it was probably a stress crack. So the dealer replaced the windshield at no charge. Whoo Hoo!

I drove into a storm front at 70 miles an hour and hit head winds of 70 miles an hour. Several rocks the size of volkswagon beetles hit my windshield and the rest is history. Bumper, hood, windshield were not in good shape. This was the third day I owned the car.

Make sure to get Factory Glass
If you want a quality glass, be careful about the low price offers. I replaced my windshield at 4 month due to a rock-induced crack in the blacked out area below the windshield. Every glass shop except one was quoting me aftermarket glass, not Toyota glass. Cost me $450 for Toyota glass. The shop threw in a glass treatment which is supposed to reduce likelihood of future cracks by filling all the little micro-pits in the glass surface. (So far it's working, but then I also haven't seen any tigers or sharks so it may be successfully repelling them as well. If nothing else, I have noticed the treatment helps the glass shed rain better than the original windshield.)
I have had, in the last 28 years since moving to Arizona, 6 glass replacements in different cars. With one exception, every time I allowed install of non-OEM glass (not 'OEM equivalent', but OEM branded glass) I received glass with horrible optical distortions or glass that simply did not fit right (inadequate curvature, thicker than factory glass, or some other defect.)
The *only* time I got perfect glass on the 1st replacement attempt was when I forced the use of OEM glass. Spend the extra money -- you'll be much happier with the end result. And save yourself a lot of repeat installs, callbacks, and hassles.

When i bought my xb2 a couple weeks ago, they offered me windshield insurance for $399 for 5 years...I jumped on it because I did my homework, Thanks to all you guys, and the internet.. I figured a windshield would cost about that anyway....AJ
