Winter Handling
#23
I use the xB as my winter car and installed General-Tire Altimax Arctic snows on all four corners with the OE steel rims. I moved the stock Bridgestone All-Season tires to a set of alloy rims for the rest of the year. I got the tires from TireRack.com.

Ive been tempted to get the Bridgestone Potenza RE960's for an all season tire though. My gf has them on her stock wheels and they do quite nicely in rain and light snow.

From my research, they're exceptional snow tires. However, my last two winters were so mild, the Bridgestones would probably have been sufficient. Still, we've had heavier in the past, so I consider them a form of insurance. I keep them on for the minimum period of time and am expecting them to last many years.

@draxcaliber - I agree. I bought an 08 Nissan Rogue for the same reason. If worst comes to worst and these tires aren't working, then I can easily swap out the Nissan for a little and leave the xB at home. In any case, when the snow hits hard here ... everything stops anyways so I would have very little reason to be out on the road!

the Nissan Rouge is an All Wheel Drive Car. Emphasis on CAR. nuts and bolts, front to back. that is car. it is as delicate as a car, it's BUILT LIKE A CAR, ON A CAR chassis.
not that all wheel drive isn't fantastic in the snow. In quite a few instances it can actually be better. but a 4x4 is a different beast entirely. I've Only owned 4x4's before this car. I know the difference.
