Worst MPG so far......

bigpapa, what does your average speed say on the trip computer? I live and work in SD and drive through stop & go traffic to and from work. I reset my trip computer's data every time I fill up. I usually average 23-24 mph (not a typo) per tank during a typical work week. That gets me about 23 mpg usually. Work + weekend driving (less traffic) I'll get closer to 25 mpg combined. I've had a few tanks where I averaged over 60 mph and my mileage was between 28-30 mpg. Obviously there is a strong correlation between average speed and average mileage. While my work commute is mostly on the freeway, it's actually more like driving in the city, ie. stop & go with low speeds. Maybe this info can give you some insight?

I am currently at about 15,000 miles on my xB2 and on the last tank I got 30 miles per gallon...350 miles on 1 tank. I average between 28 and 30 mpg on my fill ups (miles traveled/gallons filled up with).
HOWEVER, I have changed my driving habits:
1. Try to keep RPM's to about 2500 on take off
2. Keep speed limit on interstate to about 65 MPH
3. Let off of gas and coast when approaching stop signs

That makes alot of sense. The average speed on her computer is usually in the 40mph range. 90% of her commute is at highway speed and the remaining 10% is stop and go.....every day. I think that last 10% might be putting a major dent in her mileage. It is such a small fraction of her daily commute that I never took it too seriously.
