Default xB 2nd-Gen Sales

For a new car that is only two month old (in florida) there is a large number on the lot.(my local dealers each have 7 to12 in stock) When I got my 05 xB it was 7 to 8 months after the 1st showed up and there was only 1 to 3 on the lot.(local dealers) what-up?

The difference is production numbers....they are way up compared to when you bought a few years ago. I'm selling more Scions now than we did 2 years ago, and I have more inventory as well.

Bad poll. It seems based on anecdotal evidence. It could be a regional thing. I'm seeing more and more on the road each day here in western WA. The dealer inventory seems to be moving here though they seem able to cope with it with new inventory arriving frequently enough.

Based on the limited choices, I did not select any.

I just saw an xD last time I drove by the dealer's lot. Nice looking little car to be honest.

My local dealership had one on the lot and no plans to get more until it sold. They really dont sell in this town very well. I've seen one second gen on the road aside from mine. I had to have mine special ordered and wait out the 4 weeks until it showed up.

They really have no idea about them either. Old or new. I had a long list of questions for them and they had no idea what i was talking about.

Here are the two most recent sales figures releases from Toyota.
Scion posted June sales of 12,536 units. The tC sports coupe led the way with June sales of 6,509 units. The xB urban utility vehicle posted sales of 5,257 units for the month.

Scion posted July sales of 11,640 units. The tC sports coupe led the way with July sales of 6,229 units. The xB urban utility vehicle posted sales of 5,073 units for the month.

How does that compare to the gen1? Older numbers are harder to find but it looks like July 2005 sales of the xB were 4831. Not much difference really.

Anyway, as Bancho said, bad poll.

I dunno, I do feel as if there has been a small shift. I know with the prev. gen we had consistent traffic where as with this one the traffic too closely follows the Toyota trends.

In my mind the new xB just hasn't found it's core group of buyers yet, where as the old xB did almost immediately.

I am not saying this out of bias or spite (I just leased one, by the way the Lease programs on these are sick) I just notice that we actually have to "sell" them now where as the Gen1 boxes seemed like more of a no-brainer to most customers.

I do agree however the poll is bad because every region is going to be vastly different

There also seems to be a lot less promotion from the mother company for the 08's vs the initial launch.

Using that same scientific method, I have only seen one gen1 xB on the road in my area in the past 6 months and it was a Panchero's Mexican Restaurant advertisement with one of those full wraps. :D
In contrast, I see a gen 2 xB nearly every day.

When my pre-ordered $500 deposit xB came to the dealership, it was the second one. They unloaded it, PDIed it, and the salesman went to grab a SOLD sticker. 2 couples walked up, both intended to buy, and they began to argue. I just stood back and enjoyed the show. When the salesman came back out, he put the sold sticker on, we shook hands, and then we walked inside. The looks on their faces as I walked through the doors were priceless!

To be honest, when I lived in CT, I saw a lot less gen 1's (though the lots had them) than I do out here in western WA. Before moving out here 2 years ago, should I have concluded in CT that sales of the gen 1 "sucked" and it was a flop? Should I have assumed that sales locally were a reflection of sales globally?

Yeah, like a 1st gen really stands out anymore... It's a car, not a chameleon. It's not gonna change colors and hide from you. Reality is, it hasn't really been out that long yet. I don't think they'll be more common on the road for at least 6 more months.. maybe even longer. I've seen about.. maybe 3, out and about here in San Diego, but then I haven't been on the road that much lately. When I got my tC in 2005, I didn't see another one for about 4 months after I got mine. Nowadays, they're pretty common to spot. I think I see a tC about as often as I see a 1st gen, heh.

Haters GO HOME! If you like the Gen 1 better, stay in the GEN 1 FORUMS!
well said

i bought a Cadillac CTS back in 2003. It was a 3.2 liter V6, when the 3.6 liter engine was released the next year, many on the caddy message board acted like if you had the 3.2 that you were inferior in some way. this reminds me of that. it drives me crazy! why must we attack each other over which gen of xB we drive? How stupid.

it seems to me that this is the opposite, for the most part, gen1 owners are attacking the gen2

This is not a poll with anything to do about 1st GEN. It is to do with slow sales on the 2nd GEN and why. If you look at % and talk to salespeople it is a slow and harder sale then the 1st.(I checked USA stock except 1 or 2 area this the whole country)

Why are you not using information like Toyota's actual published sales figures? As I posted earlier they look like what Toyota was going for number-wise. 5000+ per month sold for gen 2 compared to about 4900 per month for the gen 1 back in 05 after nationwide release. Not very different. How exactly is that some disaster and hard to sell? You cannot ask one salesman at your local dealer and tell how things are going across town let alone the country.

You do realize that most of the stock listed on the Internet sites is not sitting on the lot don't you? Some are not there yet, some are already sold and some are on the lot.

My local dealer shows 3 xB's in their online inventory. They show a BSP (that is their demo and is not for sale) a NBM and a CSM. In reality on their lot they have the BSP demo and a HTM. They even show they have an xD. I was just there last nght. No xD.
Anyway if you are going by the inventory you are not looking at what is on the lot and available. One of my co-workers who likes my gen 2 went to the dealer and was told the first one available for them would be sometime in September.

Another issue with your thinking is that if you are looking in your area/ region you do realize that most (all?) SET dealer shows the entire inventory for the entire region when you do a search don't you? Even that shows vehicles scheduled for future delivery.

The reason it is a bad poll is that it is based on anecdotal information instead of verifiable facts and the only choices are bad this and bad that. It is the equivalent of a poll that says:
What is your opinion of this poll?
1. It is lame
2. It is biased
3. It was poorly written
4. It has nothing to do with reality

Ok now choose one.
What's that you say? You don't like any of the answers? Well maybe now you see how most of the people replying here see your poll.
