Default 2nd Gen xb Sales

The information that I got from the dealer here in San Jose, was that the xb was sold before they came on the lot. I had to wait two months before I got mine, Super White, manual, Security , Satellite and Navigation. Locally I've only seen three new xb's.

Terrible poll. You need a "None of the above" option to avoid the inevitable wrong answer you'll get out of any choice thats currently there

Yeah, you are really on the inside with Toyota/Scion, you are the only one who has ever driven the "NEW xA"! My insider at Toyota seems to disagree, he says there have been massive riots at every Scion dealer to have a 2008 xB delivered. There are over 17 million Americans who have already paid in full and are waiting for their 2008 xB delivery. [/sarcasm]

I'm glad someone asked the question; how well are the new xB's selling? I was also curious as I have have only seen two on the road since they were introduced in May. I was at my Scion dealer last week getting my xA serviced, and noticed they had a lot full of new xB's, all colors, options, ect...... At that point, I looked up a salesman and asked how much interest their was in the new xB. I was told " they are NOT setting any records, that's for sure!" So if anyone is having a hard time finding one; and or a certain color you want, come to Raleigh, N.C. and I'm sure they will be happy to hook you up!!!

I'm glad, too, since the one time I wandered into my dealer, he saw me pull up and tried to get me to "upgrade" from my "obselete model." Fortunately my sister-in-law was there to drag me out by my shirt collar before I had a chance to respond, but just before the door slammed I managed to cry "have you BEEN on ScionLife for the last three months?!" Once my valium kicked in we all had a good laugh ;)

Regardless, isn't this a little bit early to be judging sales numbers? the thing's only been on sale for like 90 days. The originals sold for three years.

I'm only now seeing the marketing switch from the original x-twins to the new kids. I'm just starting to see the CARS, frankly; people need time to discover them. Especially since the main buyer has probably never heard of Scion.

Remember, the xB2 was crafted to appeal to people who recoiled in horror at the original's design. This one's going to have a longer learning curve.

Also, percentages are going to come into play, as in, I hope Toyota wised up after the Gen 1 shortages, and manufactured more of what is ultimately a far more-marketable car. I remember my Gen 1 was stupid-difficult to get just because they'd grossly underestimated the number of people who actually wanted to buy one. In June of 2005, I had calls in to four dealers in two different states to call me if they got one just for a test drive , and when one finally did, they sold 2 of the 3 of them in the time it took me to get to the dealer, with a 6 week wait time for the color I wanted. I bought the third one and barely got out the door with it.

Again, even despite certain peoples' hopes that the xB2 will only sell to 40-year-olds with two kids in college, this is a little early to consider the matter closed.

5000 a month sales seems like a nice target number which would be 60K a year. I remember having to pre-order my Mini a year in advance before getting it in May 02, then the first few years it was impossible to get one, thus the great resale value, total number sold 25K a year which was pretty much capped by BMW. I can imagine if the xB was capped at 25K it would be similar to the Mini with the buyer frenzy to get one when they are not readibly available. Resale is a nice thing as I paid a little over $21K MSRP for my cooper S, drove it 3 years and pust 57K miles on it and sold it for $17,400. I doubt the xB will have that kind of resale but no other car does as well as BMW has done a great job limiting production!

It is to do with slow sales on the 2nd GEN and why.
Look at the options. This has more to do with somboody looking for validation to hate the gen2 even more.

know where there is 150 to 500 on dealer lots with no buyers.
Are you suggesting that there is a dealer with 150 - 500 xB's, sitting on a lot? Or are you suggesting to go on a 30 dealer tour?

Oh, and FYI, I just got through closing my month out...xB outsold the tC by 3 units. First time that's happened since the tC hit the ground.

Another problem here is that if sales were amazing, the haters would use that as ammo as well.

Random hater: "Well since Scion went and turned the xB into a Camry wagon, of course it would sell well..."

I'm happy that supply is adequate to ensure people can get one when they want, in the color they want. Replacement part availability is still sketchy at the moment, but Scion is doing a hell of a job getting cars to the lots.

Had to drop by the Scion dealer to pick up a cargo mat which was back ordered on delivery and briefly chatted with the Scion salesman I dealt with and asked how has been the response of the xB....he was very excited as he was seeing customers drop by now that had never considered a Scion since the Scion lot is right next to the Toyota lot, customers comparing it to the Rav, Prius and Camry as a potential choice. Those same potential customers he said would have never considered the previous xB. They have already taken trades on older xB's so he said they are very excited about keeping the younger market, but also adding an older demographic as well!

Anyway, I drove and considered the Prius which was a nice car, but just wasn't as fun a drive and almost $7K more for not really that much more of a car other than saving on the gas bill and being a political correct green choice!

Just some info from an NYC resident: I have seen one xb2 at a dealer here - Star Scion on NOrthern blvd in Queens. It is that new teal color they have out.

Other than that, I have not seen any xb2's on the roads.

A poll with a preconceived conclusion and only negative choices was meant to be fun? How was this *not* supposed to stir some people up after the last 1000 threads spewing 2nd gen hate?

Seriously?

It certainly was not meant to be objective, as it appears sales are not slow, actually higher than same year sales last year of the old model xB and even surpassing the tc for the first time ever in July from one poster's dealership, this while Ford and GM are now dumping cars with zero financing and huge discounts. I guess you would need to know what Toyota's target was for the new xB, but to say sales are slow appears to not have any merit and to list only negative choices for slow sales that do not exist just highlights how inappropriate the survey is on this board. Maybe it would be fun on the 1st gen board, particularly for the bashers there

My answer is nothing is wrong... I would rather they not sell too many. I see a million of the 1st generation wherever I drive in LA but have only seen about 6 xB2's in the last 3 months driving around. And I drive a lot. Less is more! Just saw my first sister white xB this morning in SCV. Dont wanna drive an xB2common...Or I'll need to do some mods to be different.

I promised myself I would never post this as a reply but I find I cannot sum up my response in a manner other than SPASTICALLY CLICKING THE SMILEY BUTTON!

the end.

I'm seeing a ton of these things all of a sudden. There's one around the block and another on my way home from work, and scattered all over the suburbs.

Actually, there's one fewer. A few weeks back I noticed a Polar White appear in a driveway with a Range Rover and a Land Cruiser (?!). A week later it had new wheels and a body kit.

Two weeks ago, the xB was gone and a tC - also white, same wheels - was sitting in its place. TODAY I drive by, and there's a brand-new Subaru WRX sitting in the place of the tC.

That said...it's okay for me to despise these people to the pit of my soul, just based on this information, right?

There were a lot of Gen 1 people excited when the boxes got discontinued for exactly that reason.

Everytime someone I know goes to California they come back saying "your car is EVERYWHERE." They came out in CA way before the rest of the country, sooo...

You may be in trouble with the xB2...I heard they were planning to make way more of them than the originals. If the numbers are roughly equivalent...I have a black box, which they sold more of than anything, and it's still considered relatively rare (my family and friends always see me coming a mile away).

Regardless, just to be safe...START MODDING! You'll need new wheels, a spoiler, side graphics, light riggings......
