Default You can drive this or you can drive that !

Love my Scion xB2,Found this top headline in AP news.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The 2010 Kia Soul, a boxy vehicle that has been marketed to urban motorists, is being investigated by government regulators for potential loss of steering control.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday on its website that it had received one complaint alleging complete steering loss. The preliminary investigation covers more than 50,000 vehicles.
The complaint said the steering shaft detached from the steering wheel, leading to a complete loss of steering, and the shaft fell into a position that interfered with the driver's ability to brake.
The government agency seldom opens an investigation based on one complaint but said it was "very concerned about this failure in that it occurred without warning on a new vehicle at low mileage and resulted in a complete loss of steering as well as a compromised brake system."
The owner who filed the complaint had driven the vehicle for two months and had 4,300 miles on it.

KIA builds as cheap as possible. I can see this happening. We have had several in our shop with issues of things comming loose that shouldn't!!! I bet they have to replace the driver's seat too....

I have there are actually three in Alpha Sqaud... No problems at all. I would asume this is similar to the whole toyota thing with the brakes not working. Its going to get blown way out of proportion.

In case you didn't know, every manufacturing company does this. Let's not forget Toyota has had their fair share of issues as of late.

Not at all, the toyota thing was people hitting the gas thinking it was the brake(there is a fair amount of evidence to support this). There was no evidence to support the stuck pedal theory. In this case i believe there is clear evidence(i.e. a separated steering column blocking the brake) of a manufacturing(or design) defect. And also unlike the alleged toyota crap a good driver can't recover from steering (and possible brake) failure.

My family has owned a couple of Hyundai's they are built cheap, and the interiors kind of suck but as far as reliability goes, they are the longest lasting cars we've had. Hopefully my Scion rates up there with them. Or at least better than my VW haha

Heh, I wish people thought more like you. Media twists everything, and people make decisions without being informed properly.

It's possible for the floor mats to make your pedals stick if they get up there just right, It's nothing limited to Toyota (though they are taking all the heat). My Ford Escort had the same issue. Multiple times I got my clutch stuck in, luckily it was never my gas.

sounds like an isolated case... probably had the car in for service for something and some idiot mechanic forgot to bolt something down.

i can actually recall an instance when a friend with a Scion had the SAME THING happen to him.. it was due to an idiotic mechanic. afaik, that mechanic doesn't work where he was at anymore.

With as many vehicles as EVERY company puts out every day, it's not a surprise to find a few loose bolts slip through every now and again.
