Zsanz and Cionide, thanks for the info. The springs are currently "en route" in the mail. Should be here by this upcoming Wed. Now that I got the springs ordered I need to buy the TRD shocks and struts, the swaybar set and Strut tower beam. Would love to do all that in just one shot ya know?

yea but the benefit of doing it separate is youll fell the difference between now and with shocks/struts...then once you get the sway bar set youll notice more and i think the biggest difference is the strut tower beam. its full of win.

Awesome DIY - Thanks! I'm about to do mine. One question though. I have all the tools except for an impact wrench. Can I get away with using good socket wrenches with a long handle, or am I risking breaking the bolts thanks to the slow torque?

EDIT: I ordered an impact wrench to do the work. It just arrived. Mine's electric, so it's quite big. I'm afraid it won't fit between the wheel well and the strut in order to remove the 2 19mm strut bolts, but it should work fine for everything else.

Default Great DIY

Thanks tCTaco. Your DIY is excellent. Thanks for taking the time to take all of those great pictures. I am an idiot when it comes to working on cars. Anyway, my wife totalled her 2010 Nissan Cube SL. We loved that car but wanted to try something different. We bought a 2011 xB 8.0 series. I thought Nissans had crazy wheel gap! Well, I found this site while doing research on the car. I studied your DIY and bought some tools and decided to try it myself. We had the car for about seven days and less than 400 miles. Everything went well, except: floor jack wouldn't go high enough, so I used some old boards under the jack, and my jack stands were almost too high. I spent almost five hours in 100 degree weather (Dallas, TX) but finally got it done. I may have the record for longest time doing a spring install. I drove it right over to Discount Tire for some 18" wheels and tires. It looks so much better now. Thanks again tCTaco. I would post some pics, but I can't figure out how to do that without a DIY either.

Here's your DIY for posting pics:

Go to www.photobucket.com and open up an account. Upload pics to photobucket, then cut-n-paste the "IMG" link below each picture from the photobucket page to the ScionLife message posting window.

Thanks SO much to tCTaco. I just did mine last night and this was immensely helpful. I really wish I had an impact wrench, though. It sucks having to compress the springs with a wrench. Also, I used a tire iron to remove the 22mm strut bolts.

Omg man that is torture to ones self!! Remember that the two 22mm lower strut bolts need torqued down to 177 ft lbs!

Although I know how to do this, this guide was very helpful and really cuts your downtime! Thanks tctaco!

Dropped on DF210's, 19's and Five Axis kit - rides great!!

Thumbs up Thank you so much

This step-by-step tutorial allowed me to install my DF210's. I've always paid my auto-inclined buddies to swap them on my other vehicles. I want to say thanks for taking the time to teach the eager to learn folks like myself. It means alot. This helps me believe that I am able to work on future projects on my XB. Thanks for the confidence boost once again. Pictures to come once I purchase wheels and tires.

Default I Want to be sure....

I know this a very old post but thought I would try my luck before proceeding.

I'm installing Tanabe df210s on my '08 xB and want to be sure I understand correctly that I can use my stock shocks.

I'm not able to do this myself so is $200 a fair price to install the springs and front struts?

Yes, you can run your stock struts, but it's not a good idea. Not because they won't work, but because struts are cheap and you're already going to have to remove the stock ones to put the springs in. It makes absolutely zero sense *not* to replace them. You have two main options (unless you want to spend a fortune on OEM replacements):

* KYB 339205 left and 339204 right
* Monroe 72671 left and 72670 right

Also check out the condition of your bellows (strut boots); if they're torn up, you really should replace them at the same time. They're dealer only so they will need to be ordered at least a few days in advance.

As far as labor, yes, $200 is decent. Don't forget that you absolutely must have an alignment done, that's another probably $75-100 on top of that.
