Cool Scion xB2 Rear Trunk Brace!

[FONT=Calibri]Well I just could not wait for one, so I made one myself! This was the 1st one I made and is a little rough. This is not painted and I’m looking for the color I want it powder coated. (Metallic burnt copper). If enough people want one, i have no problem fabricating more once I have my jig. Welded with my millermatic 212 welder. Pics below. [/FONT

not sure yet. i have not bolted it down yet as im waiting for paint. price i dont know. all depends on how many people want one, as its way cheaper to get a the items powdercoated all at once instead of one by one.

Are those holes large enough for the ksport damping adjustment ***** to fit down in?

Around the size of a nickel or a quarter?

The I.D. of the hole is 1inch. So as long as the **** can rotate withen a 1 inch circle then yes it will fit. If not then I could make one that has a larger I.D. to fit it.

And sorry if I sound so critical, but the idea intrigues me and I'm curious what you speculate the benefits of this addition will be. I like it, but I wouldn't want it solely for aesthetics, you get what I'm saying?

i thought he strut is what is stiking out into the trunk. that bolt that im bolting the rod to. im just useing the same ideal that on the tc2 trunk brace

Yeah, I wonder about the effectiveness of a rear upper shock brace on the xB2. Note that it's not a strut, it's a shock, and unlike the front struts, it's not a stressed suspension member. The rear springs mount separately from the shocks, and the primary stress is in the torque beam axle, not the upper shock mounts. A front strut tower brace helps preserve front suspension geometry under stress., but it's not at all clear a rear upper shock brace would contribute much to rear suspension geometry.

To me it seems on the tc2 its set up the same way in the back. I could be wrong. Here is the tread I have referred to.

Took a scan through that thread -- pretty long, but problem is the tC has a double wishbone rear suspension (as does my '90 Eclipse GSX, which also responds well to a rear strut brace), whereas the xB2 rear is torsion beam -- a totally different animal. Without reasonable evidence of significant advantage, I'm not so sure it's a good idea to take this step.

Doubt it will hurt anything, but whether it'll be usefully advantageous is a very reasonable question!

Hey at least it looks nice. I wouldn't mind getting one to match the front strut bar. If anyone tracks an XB your retarded. Who cares if it does anything? You buy this car to cruise around in with (in my case) form over function. My new idea for it: a brace to hold my sub in place. LOL. See now it has a function.
