Default Axis Penta 18x8 fitment question - solved (pictures added)

I am thinking about this setup with Axis penta hyperblack wheels for my XB2:

Front: Axis penta 18x8 40
Rear: Axis penta 18x8 35

I am dropped on NF-210 and I am leaning toward Continental extreme contact tires. I was favoring 225/40.

The wheel/tire size comparer says that the front will be 5mm closer to suspension and stick out 15mm farther than stock. The rear is supposed to stick out 20mm farther than stock.

My goals are to come close to flush without creating rubbing issues. I am trying to keep the weight close to 44# and I don't like poke. I do mainly city driving on smooth roads. About once a month we head out of town for round-trips up to about 6hrs around NC and VA.

So, what do you think? Will it rub? Am I going to clear the brakes/suspension? Do I need spacers? Would a different tire work better? Would a similar style wheel from a different company have better fitment options for the XB?

I'm thinking you'll be fine. I'm running 18x8.5 +40 all around with 225/40 with 10mm spacers in the rear and on H-Techs. The front rubbed very slightly in the beginning but then now I experience no more rubs, even with a full load of people in the car.

Of course, this was all recommended to me by Cionide so I'd wait for his final word. I'm basing what I said through experience so this is just to give you an idea.

Good luck with your setup!

Good to go, no rubbing with everything you've spec'd above. The front wheels will sit back about 1/4" from dead flush, and the rears will sit back about 1/2". I wouldn't worry about spacers at all. I like your tire size and choice also for these wheel size & offsets.

Your choices have been approved, and you may place your order now.

You will be fine with rubbing.

I am running 18x225/45 in the front and 18x245/45 in the rear. No issues. Altho I am not dropped. Good luck with you setup, can't wait to see.

Oh BTW I am running the continental extreme contact DW and they are awesome. I love them!!!

Still no wheels. Axis apparently can't find a color matched set of penta wheels, using my original specs, after almost three months on order. They say they have four of the 18x8 40 offset hyperblack pentas that match, that they can ship me. Two questions:

1. Would you wait on the pseudostaggered look or just get the ones they have in stock? (They won't give me any projected date when they would be able to fill my order. On the plus side I could rotate tires more easily.)

2. If I go with the 40 offsets all around, I assume I will need 5 or 10mm spacers in the back to flush out the wheels. Will the studs for the lug nuts be long enough to handle the spacer, or will I need longer studs?

Honestly, I am thinking about just picking a different set of wheels. This problem raises concern in my mind about Axis' quality control and customer service.

18x8 +40 will work fine at all 4 corners. To flush out the rears to match the fronts, I suggest 15mm Ichiba V2 spacers that already have the new studs pressed into the spacers. These would be paired with 225/40 tires... no rubbing at all with your NF springs.

Thanks Cionide. The new wheels are now on order with the spacers you recommended. I'll post the pics when I get them installed. I just hope there aren't any more problems.

Don't worry about Axis's wheel quality...I have been running mine for quite awhile now with zero issues...I have hit some decent sized pot holes (crappy Az roads) and no bends or cracks...The finish still looks like the day it was shipped to my house...Cant wait to see pics, I love the rims you picked...

That's a nice thought, but there are too many variables to consider regarding drop (various springs with their different rates and amount of drop, coilovers, or air bags), wheel width & offsets that may or may not work based on each individual drop, how much or little tire stretch somebody is willing to run, and whether or not fender rolling and/or pulling is acceptable to the owner.

That being said, I would love it if somebody could pull it off, I'd spend a lot less time sitting at the computer.

I finally got the wheels installed. Still waiting on the spacers for the rear wheels though. Here are some pics:
