Default Just bought a 2011 and now I would like some rims....

Hello all,

I just bought a 2011 Scion xB and I'm loving it. I just want to get some nice rims for it now. I know it comes with stock 16" wheels with 205/55R16 tires, but my question is:

would it be too far of a jump to put some 18" wheels with 225/40R18's on it?

I just want to make sure that they will fit and they wont effect my acceleration and speedometer.

I was looking at 17" wheels but they dont look much different than the 16's and 19's look like they might be too big.

Just looking for some good info from people that know whats up! thanks for the input in advance!

Depending on the width, offset, and if you decide to lower it any, those tire specs should work great.

19's are perfect for the xB2, IMO. 18's are great, too.

Wheels are the single most personal item that get put on a car, especially the xB. Take some time to research what's out there, and what size you like. Larger wheels can fill out the fenders better, but the lower profile tires that are necessary can make the ride a little harsher. I suggest you look around this forum quite a bit, before jumping into anything. Personally I feel 18" wheels are perfect for the xB... 17's can look a little small, and 19" or greater starts to get heavy (poor gas mileage & acceleration) and ride rough.

You have some decisions to make:

1. Do you want the same size tires & wheels at all 4 corners, or do you want a staggered set-up (rear wheels & tires wider than the front)? This is purely for looks only, and provides no other benefit. Also keep in mind that with a staggered set-up the rear tires & wheels will be more expensive, as well as making it so that you can't rotate to help with tire wear.

2. Do you want spokes, or the mesh look?

3. If you like spokes, do you have a preference for #? (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc.)

4. Have you come up with a color preference? (Black, Hyper-Black, Gunmetal, Silver, Hyper-Silver, Gold, Bronze?)

Here are some sites to take a look at. Most of them will allow you to filter by car type & year, as well as wheel size. This will speed the process up. Some even narrow it down to finish, but you may want to hold off on that for now, until you really figure out what you want. Make sure you write down any website & wheels you like the first time through, because you will be ____ed if you have to go back through a second time to find the ones you liked. When you note ones that you like, also write down the price; many wheels are on different sites and this way you will know who sells them the cheapest. Once you get it narrowed down to what you like, I can help with fitment.

The two most popular sites for wheels & tires:
http://www.discounttiredirect.com
http://www.tirerack.com

A bunch of other sources since nobody sells everything:
http://www.1010tires.com
http://www.buywheelstoday.com
http://www.customwheelsdirect.com
http://www.elementwheels.com
http://www.lakeshorewheelandtire.com

http://superbuytires.com
http://www.victoriatire.com
http://www.vividracing.com
http://www.wheelfire.com
http://www.wheelmax.com

That should keep you busy for a while.

okay,

ive been browsing tirerack.com and many other websites that you gave me... Thank you, by the way. and I think that I have come to the decision that I like the Enkei Performance T-Fork the best.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/MiniW...d=true&sw=1920

My xB is the elusive blue color and is a little darker than the one in the link, but I think that the gunmetal finish and spokes of these wheels look really good.

I was also thinking that I might want to just keep them 16" instead of getting them in 18" because the tires that fit the 18" are pretty pricey... and im thinking overall cost in the long run.

If you do not agree, feel free to convince me that the 18" wheels are the better bet (i kind of want someone to reassure me that it will be worth it in the long run...lol) because most places have the 215/45-18 tires for almost $200 a pop. But I kinda want larger wheels. I dunno. let me know what you think.

Again...thanks for all your input, it is much appreciated!

Oh! and i dont really plan on altering the suspension (i.e.: lowering the rear end or anything like that... unless you think its beneficial) I dont really know much about that stuff either.

Actually. I have a friend that is selling his 17" tC rims. I'm thinking that those would be cool because they still have the scion logo. Will the bolt pattern match up?

No, the 17" tC wheels have a 5x100 bolt pattern, and ours is 5x114.3.

The 2011 tC has 18" wheels and the same 5x114.3 bolt pattern as the xB2, so those wheels will fit.

Look around at xb's with aftermarket 16s if you think they look good go for 16, if you think they may be kind of small go 18s. And congrats on the new xb we have the same car except mine is over a year old now. Lol I prefer 18s. Not Too small, not to harsh of ride. I think tires are a bit cheaper too compared to 17s and 19s

The gap all depends on the tire size, and the wheel offset. Find wheels you like and we can go from there.
