I'd look at a 225/30 for a 7.5" wide rim. It'll work fine with the +40 offset, and the overall diameter will be just under 1/2" larger than stock (about the same as the TRD 19" wheels with 235/35 tires).

do you realy know what you are getting into with 20s?
if you are concerned about curbs and pothole, you might want to think twice about your choices.
ive seen alot of 18 19 20s with blown out side walls and bent rims from all sorts of "common" road coditions.

If you are not planning on lowering the XB, you can stuff 235/30's on either wheels. But if you are gonna lower the XB even on TRD springs, You will need to stick with 225s or go with smaller wheels combo to run 235's and wider. Its pretty much the fronts that you need to worry about. There are people here that are running 20x10's in the rear. Check out blk08xb's ride on the forum

My wife also likes to hit curbs and I swear she aims for potholes.. But her use of the XB is very limited so I wasnt too worried about going with the 225's on the dubs ;)

do they rub due to clearance issues (lock to lock) or because the damping in the shock isnt made for the lower springs. I like your setup but want to go alittle lower hopefully with some coilovers.
thanks

so could I run a 225/35 on the msr's? That would be like your set up but on a 7.5 inch rim and that would be a bigger sidewall will that work?

Yes as long as the offset is atleast +35.... (If somebody thinks the offset calculation is wrong, please chime in). The 225's will look much better on the 7.5 than my 8.5. No Streching of the tire.

Everybody lowers the xB for two reasons; 1) it looks better, because the rear is way too high stock, as compared to the front, and 2) because the stock rear springs are linear and ride very poorly compared to any spring drop (no matter how small).
You should plan on lowering it with either TRD or Tanabe NF210's. The Tanabe's will look better and ride smoother, but the TRD's will be a little stiffer to allow a slightly taller tire without rubbing.
For your considerations, I would look at dropping it on TRD's with 235/35-19's; or NF210's with 225/40-18's.
The choice is yours. Either way, I wouldn't want an offset less than +40; +35 will rub when you or your wife hit bumps, potholes or brush against curbs.

Ok guys after thinking long and hard on this I think I am going to go with the MSR's http://wheelsnext.com/default.cfm?ho...=Black%20Gloss
and run a 225/35 tire I think the front will sit fine like this on stock springs What should I do on the back to level it out should I use TRD springs or use stock 1st gen springs or something else?

As long as you don't lower the front, I think it will work without rubbing (no guaranty obviously). The 225/35 tires will fill out the wheelwells about 2/3" more than stock, so it should look alright even if you don't lower it.

For rear springs, to level it out and get rid of the unbalanced look, I would recommend the TRD's if you can find a set of rears only. They're designed to handle the extra weight of the 2ndGen xB, and while slightly stiffer than stock when compressed, they are progressive and will ride better in general than stock springs.

Looking forward to seeing pics, and hearing impressions, when you get this all done.

Cionide makes some good suggestions. the 225.30.20's are the best size for the least amount of clearance issues. They should clear just fine. the 235.30.20's would probably be Ok too but might need a little roll with a drop and the 225.35.20's should be Ok at stock height, just watch out for rubbing on the inner fenders at Full lock.

what ever you choose, if you are worried about damaging them make sure you buy certificates for Free replacement. Not only will the potholes mess up your rims but they can tear up your tires as well.
