Default Tire Stretching

I see that the fad or the new thing is to get really wide wheels and stretch narrow tires. Im not saying its bad. But how do you keep from bottoming out on your tires or messing up your fender well.
I have seen many cars with tire cuts and scuffed wheels and messed up fenders. But i can also say it does look cool, just unsafe and costly. Just on what ive seen so far.

Many people stretch their tires specifically to avoid hitting the tire on the fender due to insanely tight clearances.

ive been stretched for a little over a year now, its no different then driving an extremely lowered car with regular tires, you learn to avoid pot holes and curbs.

although i have hit a few holes and never had an issue, higher tire pressures then manufacturer suggested also helps.

Lowriders have been doing this for yeeeeears. YEEEEEARS.

155/80R13's on a 13x7? That's a pretty mean stretch. I ran Daytons for a while with 175/70R14's in 14x7's. Never had a problem.

Drifters stretch tires because they're super JDM and because it stiffens the sidewalls for better drift-ability.

I think you nailed it with the last line of your post. I'd say to those that have posted here are "stretching" w/o having any issues so far. With that being said, IMHO I definitely wouldn't recommend doing it. The main reason not to do it is that it "forces" the side-wall of the tire to come into contact with the road surface. Which it was never designed or intended to do that. It raises the risk factor for the tire to fail resulting in a blow out

To stretch or not to stretch? Should function follow form or vice versa? Count me in the form follows function camp.

I'm about to drop some cash on new tires for rims that I just got, the rims I have are 18x8 with a +25 offset, I will be wrapping them in 215/40R18's. Not a massive stretch, but possibly enough to clear the wheel wells. Will post pics when I get em on.

Can't wait to see this, I'm thinking of dropping down to this size with the next set of tires for some extra clearence too.

youre going to be able to clear 18x8 + 25 no problem without a stretch. I have 19x8.5 + 10's in the front that I can get the fender over *barley* but another 15mm is another 1-1/4 you'll be sunk. If you dont need to stretch your tires I wouldnt... its not fun in the rain... at all

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but 15mm = .6" (actually .59" but I'm rounding up).

well even though I stated above that I wouldn't recommend doing a stretch on tires, if Im looking at it right, it would only end up being a few mil. stretch, so nowhere near as drastic as some stretch setups I've seen.
Def. post pics when you get it done so we can all see.

im more afraid of cheaply made-in-china tires then stretching tires, had a 2 month old nankang blow out on the highway for no apparent reason, the thread showed no puncture or anything of the sort, and ive put 40k miles on my stretched falkens with no issues.

alot of the modifications we do to our cars raise the risk of accidents/damage to our vehicles, from lowering, to adding power via turbo kits and nitrous, it comes down to the person and what you are comfortable with. If stretching tires makes you drive like a grandma and you start loosing hair from stress thinking your tires will blow any second, then no, stretching is not for you!

Those wheels & spacers will fit fine. Tire size/stretch will depend on your drop.
