TPMS Question

TPMS Question
I'm about to buy a set of stock tires from a nice fellow on SL & I was just wondering if his TPMS will be detected by my car? I just don't wanna go thru the hassle of removing my TPMS and replace it on the set of tires as well as having that TPMS light on all the time. To my understanding, only my TPMS will be detected by MY car. His TPMS is for HIS car. I'm not sure tho, thanks guys for the support!

You will have to have the new TPMS sensors programmed to your car at a Toyota/Scion dealership. This will require having the sensor code number that is on the sensor itself. This usually means looking at the sensor which is attached to the wheel inside the tire, unless the person you're buying them from knows the number (doubtful).

yea.. for one thing.. he needs his own sensors for his car..
and regardless, unless anyone knows the serial numbers for all the sensors to reprogram the ECU (which requires a nice visit to the dealership).. you'll be taking the tire off to look.

SquallLHeart, does every single sensor have it's own serial #, or are they packaged in sets of 4 sensors with one # for each car?
Just curious, because it's the difference between checking inside one tire, or having to do all four.

each tmps has its own serial number.
there is a way to get the numbers for all the sensors though without opening each one as they are programmed into the ecu. the dealership can pull the numbers that are programmed to the car directly from the ecu using their scantool.
so to get the numbers from the wheels you are getting, his car needs to go to the dealership...
but now as i asked before.. what is HE gonna do about his tmps?

Thanks for the serial number info.
Certainly a valid question; one that simplexb may need to clarify with the guy he is buying them from.
