When do I need hubcentric ring adapters?
I'm looking at wheels, and bumped in to some information about these hubcentric ring adapters. The wheels I've been looking at are 18x8 40 offset and 73.1 hub bore.
From what I read I think ours are around 60. So does that mean I need adapters?
Also, how do they fit and will they push my wheel out farther, I think I'll be almost right to the fender already, I don't want to go out any farther.
thanks

Yes, you will need 73.1-60.1 adapters. You can even get them on eBay for $10. They are the same that sell for $20-$30 retail. They will not push the wheel out any further. They only keep the rims centered axially.

I actually saw your post over on the other board about this subject that's why I posted here for more information/conformation.
thanks for the reply, I'll have to find them see what they look like. Kinda sounds odd that is wouldn't affect offset. But it would be nice if it didn't. I dont' think I'll have much room to spare.

They definitley will not effect the offset. The hub ring fits inside the center of the rim kind of like a ball bearing would. They sit inside of the hub of the new wheel and sit flush with the inside face so that they bolt up to your hub as if the rings weren't even there. The diagram I linked to explains it very well. Don't forget to post pics of your new setup.

ok I'm feeling it now, thanks for the pictures. it kinda makes it so there is more flush contact with the different wheels.
thanks, it would seem like just any brand would do wouldn't you think?

Yeah they're probably all the same plastic rings from China... Only difference is price. Don't pay too much. I hear there are metal ones that some people don't like because they can seize to the rim or hub.

Sorry if this is a thread jack, but I figured the OP would also benefit from this info. Would you need hubcentric rings even if you are going with hubcentric spacers? I'm thinking the spacers would nauturally come in the right size to convert the hub ring difference as well?

The hubcentric spacers will most likely retain the stock hub bore. For example, the stock hub has a 60.1 mm bore, and most spacers I have seen that also have a 60.1 mm bore. So you would still need a 60.1 - 73.1 adapter in the OP's case
There might be a spacer/adapter all-in-one soultion but I haven't seen them.
