Uh... that would be a huge price jump wouldn't it? Never heard about this. Maybe for '09 or maybe they were talking about the IST in an American magazine. No idea.

The Toyota ist in japan had an AWD model but for some reason they didn't carry it over for the scion brand. If you're right this, then it looks like Toyota will maybe bring over the AWD models for the 09's.

Oh ok sorry it took me a while to reply but i finally found it!!! the article pretty much says well i'll just write what the article says lol " In a Move that Surprises absolutely no one. The JDM-Spec xD is called the toyota ist. Order some badges from Toyota Netz and fi the hardcore ist fans should go one step beyond the badges and import the heavy beauty's AWD Drivetrain." that should be just about right.

ah, well then I guess Toyota is not sending any AWD models our way.
Not like I could have afforded it anyway.

i think they purposely held back since it would probably distract some of the RAV4 customers and offered the VSD to make up for it. i think the awd would use more gas also which is the xDs main selling point

AWD? No thanks... thats a massive loss of gas mileage. I had an Audi Quattro and its 4banger was only netting me 28ish highway miles. I dumped it for the xD which is netting me 41+ highway so far and Im still in first 800 miles. Not to mention the xD is in no shape to run an AWD setup. The car would be a slug with the lack of torque and any bigger motor and you're just talking even less MPGs. Also factor in at least a 5k price increase.

AWD was available only on the 1.5L model in an automatic, Was never made for the 1.8L.

^^ The current 1.8's I do remember the 03-05 Matrix Coming in a AWD version for a small period of time with its 1.8 1zz lineup. It didnt work out due to massive powertrain loss though.
