Default High idle on startup

When starting my XD (if not warm already) it will redline idle for around 2-3 seconds. It has been doing it for a few months and I know its not good for it. Any suggestions?? about 83k miles

wait, so your car is idling at redline, like literally at the top of the tachometer? or it is just idling at a slightly higher rpms to warm up, which it is normally supposed to do when it is cold.

is the xD drive by throttle cable? or drive by wire? if it has a regular cable, i'd have somebody start the car while the hood is up to see if binding or something.

Its electronic, not cable. Mine runs a little higher than normal at startup, for warm up, but never redlines. Time for you to go to the stealership..

This maybe a silly question, but does it also look like your going 120mph? I'm just saying our cars have startup sequence where the needles jump to maximum then back down.

I don't think that's a silly question because I think he just found his answer.

its not a normal rev like when your engine is running and you step on the gas.. its like a high revving noise while studdering basically.

The studdering is the rev limiter kicking in. Have this checked out soon, running such a high RPM with the engine cold is not good in the long run.
