Default Cigarette Lighter??

I guess this is a Toyota thing but my 07 Ford Focus the cigarette lighter did not shut down after I turned off my vehicle. I was curious if their was a way to change this in my xD 2.0 so that it would not turn off. It is kind of messing up some of my charging items like my Zune and such.

Also their isn't an adapter that goes from the pioneer to make it zune accessible right? only for the Ipod??

Thanks,
Mike

The accessory outlet gets power when the key in the ignition is in the ACC or ON position, power gets cut off when the key is in the OFF position or completely removed.

You're saying that your Focus had continuous power to the accessory outlet even when the key in the ignition was in the OFF position? So did you still get power when the key wasn't in the ignition at all?

Every American car I've ever drove the cig lighter always had power even when there was no keys in the car. It's definetly nice when you go somewhere and want to charge you're phone but don't want to leave you're keys in the car.

That is exactly what im saying i would walk away from my car leave it at night locked up with my car keys in hand and it would charge. Never had one battery issue for the 2.5 years i had it.

Yeah, my VW Golf 12v outlets would stay on all the time. There's very little chance of draining the battery with an iPod or cell phone.

I might rewire mine to work all the time, but my first step will be installing a 12v outlet in the trunk. My Golf had one there and it was great for charging something while keeping it out of sight. It will also be nice for my 12v compressor that I use to add air to my trailer tires.

I would also like to add another 12v outlet up front. And, while I'm at it, I'd like to hide the wiring for my Garmin. Haven't figured that one out, yet.

That's a first for me, I didn't know some cars had continuous power. I guess that shows that I'm always in a Toyota.

Would you be wiring the outlet to your battery?? or a separate battery?

i was able to change my cigarette lighter in my concorde to either "battery" or "ignition"... it was a three hole fuse. depending on which side you put the fuse (left/middle, or middle/right) gave you power constantly, or power with ignition.

i'm surprised most cars don't have that selection...

I just checked my fusebox, I don't see any option like that. But I did realize that my clock stays on 24/7 with or without the ignition, so their has to be something..

Well, your thread got me motivated (even though I'm fighting off a cold). I installed my 12v outlet in the trunk today. Works great... and it works all the time! Here's a link to the thread with pics:

That looks way to good, great job, I feel kind of nub'ish but what did you use to cute out the interior to put it in? and I will most definitely be doing this,
Maybe not in the back, not sure, but their are some slots open and ready in my xD, Thanks a lot!

I used a hole saw. The 12v outlet that I used calls for a 1 1/8" hole saw. It cut through the plastic like butter. Just make sure there is room behind the panel you cut... those outlets are about 3" long.

Another power type gripe. I'm used to my previous domestic cars rear window defrost auto shutting off. I am forever forgetting to turn off the rear defrost in my xD as the dang thing isnt on an auto timer. That, the accessory power outlet not being hot all the time, and lack of an adjustable intermittant wiper for the front and rear windshield are my biggest peeves with this car. Otherwise I lurve it.

Why bother to shut it off? power is cut when you turn the key off so its not like you will drain your battery... I have never turned my rear window defrost off since the day I bought my xD over 2 years ago...

It was always my understanding that excessive heat is bad for the window tint. On my prior vehicle the back window tint was the first window to get bubbly after about 6 years.
