Default iPod cutting out... help!

So, the past few days my iPod has been randomly cutting out. Sometimes it plays for 30 minutes or more, sometimes just 15 seconds. The music just stops. The display freezes, looks like it is paused or something. I can use the track forward/back buttons and the track number in the display changes, but it never starts playing. I can't get get any info in the menu, such as playlists, artists, tracks, etc. So, it is like the iPod was unplugged all of a sudden. If I turn the radio off, unplug the iPod cable (at either end), plug it back in, and turn the radio back on, it will start where it left off... but then cut out again in a few seconds or minutes.

The display on the iPod goes from "SCION" to the regular iPod menu at that point... again, as if it had been unplugged.

So... anyone else experience this? I am thinking that there might be something wrong with the cable. It worked flawlessly for 6 months and just started doing this the other day. I haven't tried another iPod yet... I'll have to borrow my wife's this weekend and give it a try. Unfortunately, I don't have another cable to try.

I think your Ipod must have had some tech problems, stuff like this should be used regularly, otherwise this problem will arise. Try checking Apple, if you can still avail of the warranty.

No, it's not a Touch... it's an iPod video 30 gig.

Ken, what do you mean by "stuff like this should be used regularly"? I use my iPod and the iPod interface in my xD every day!

Oh, and I have tried resetting the iPod. That didn't help.

I don't think it's the iPod... I'm playing it through my stereo at work and it has been going for 6 hours and hasn't locked up yet.

I'm going to be a little annoyed if I have to buy a $79 cable... and a lot annoyed if there's something wrong with the head unit.

I had this same problem recently. It was the cable that was the problem. I picked up a new cable and it works perfectly now. Thankfully my cable wasn't that much for aftermarket HU I have.
I take it you have the stock headunit?
Talk to your dealer first. It might be covered under warranty, the radio itself definitely is. You could also prolly find lots of people on here or ebay that are selling their stock cable for cheap.

Yeah, I've got the stock HU. I think I'll do what you suggested... go to the dealership and see how nice they are. Before that, I'm going to use some Deoxit ProGold contact cleaner on both the iPod and the cable and see if that helps.
