More Power! (2nd 12V outlet?)
I want to add another 12 volt power outlet to my 2008 xD, so I can charge my phone without unplugging the radar detector. I don't want to use a splitter 'cause I detest cable clutter. I see three possible locations:
1. On the side of the center stack (have to drill a hole). Problem is, I don't know how to get the center stack apart and put it back together, hate to mess it up.
2. The round plug in the dash to the right of the steering column. I popped this out and it has orientation notches and a couple of latches. Is there an add-on outlet that goes here?
3. On the console between the seats. There are 4 rectangular plugs, anyone know of a will fit outlet for these?
Any advice will be welcome. Thanx.

Hey, not sure if this will help you or not, but I just posted a tutorial on how I just added a few outlets to my xb. Here's the link: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=172526
Also, if you check that link, you'll see a photo of where I hardwired my radar detector in to the fuse box and mounted it below my mirror. What kind of radar detector do you have? Beltronics + Escort make hardwire cables specifically for their detectors.

1. start pulling, it all pulls out, cant mess it up.
2. it is for the push start from the IST. and putting a outlet there would be really awkward, having something sticking out from there while driving, or trying to put your key in.
3. no. it will not fit there, you dont really have the room under it because of the ebrake cable.
i use a splitter so that i still have 2 extra plugs if i need them and i have no clutter. my splitter is mounted under my headunit behind the trim with my phone charger ran to the cubby at the bottom and my radar detector cable ran through the dash to the detector.
im in Oviedo, not too far from you, if you need help installing whatever option you choose, lmk.

Well, I found a cheap easy fix. Instead of a splitter that is just a male plug with two female plugs attached by 6" of wire, I found a 3 way splitter box at Wally World, and it slips right into the little tray slot below the wheel:

If anyone wants to put in another 12v outlet (like me), you might want to check out boating stores. They often have better-looking 12v outlets than auto parts stores.
I had a VW Golf before the xD and it had a 12v outlet in the hatch area. I found it really convenient., because I could charge my laptop, cell phone, GPS, etc. without it being in plain sight.
As far as radar detectors go, you might want to consider ditching the cigarette lighter plug and going hard-wired. That would be the "cleanest" installation. There is constant 12v going to the dome lights... all you need to do is find a good ground for it.
