Default 5000 and 10000 free oil change

Do you have to make an appointment or just show up? Do you need to show anything? How long does it take?

if you have an appointment, things go by faster. I was quoted an hour for my 15k checkup but it ended up being 3 hours. Honestly it all depends on how busy they are the day you go there.

Find a dealer near you, call them up and make an appointment to avoid waiting too long. You should just have to take your car in no paperwork needed. Also, they will ask you for your name, address, phone number and such to keep in their computer. My services have been about 1 hour the 15k one was almost 2 due to something that was my fault and pushed me back in the line.

I've never made an appointment when I got mine done. I usually just showed up, had them drop me off at home then pick me up when they're done.

I had the same treatment as ChelsDS said. Showed up and came back an hour later.

I'm so frickin angry today. Had to change the oil today but since the usual shop was closed, I had to go to another shop. I don't go to Toyota because they charge you a ridiculous $99.95 for additional inspections. And no I can't change it myself because I park on the streets of New York.

Anyway, after the guy unscrewed the bolt to drain the oil, he could not unscrew the oil filter. He tried with pliers, a wrench with a steel cup, and another tool. It was too tight and he said anymore force the filter would break. He did not replace the filter and poured in new oil. He told me go back to the original shop after 3000 miles since they were the ones who screwed it on too tightly. It took 45 minutes, a line full of frustrated customers, and I paid him $20 which he didn't deserve and had to drive away for a half-assed job.

My complaints are for three people. First is today's mechanic. Either he needs to work out and get muscle or he tried to rip me off. I will never go back to him. Second is the previous mechanic, he knew this filter is made of plastic and screwing it on so tight would either crack it or make it a burden for the oil change next time. Third is the engineer at Scion, Toyota sells reliable cars and the plastic design of this oil filter is a complete failure. I think before 2 years of owning this car and after 100's of technicians screwing the oil filter on and off, the filter will crack and I will have to go to Toyota to buy an expensive replacement because they will discontinue my xD for that little imbecile they call the iQ.

This reminds me of my friend's Audi where they had to remove the entire front bumper to replace four spark plugs. My advice for the aftermarket companies is to design a steel oil filter.

Wow.... a mechanic turned you away saying he couldn't take off the filter? ROFLMAO! Where the ____ did you go? And you paid him anyway? As for the Audi I'm also flabbergasted. Spark plugs are at the top of the engine so why would a bumper have to be removed?

No reason to knock Toyota for making the filter cap out of plastic... Mercedes does the same thing.

By the way, the Toyota/Scion dealership out here has cars lining up at the Express Lube bays an hour and a half before they even open!

I think the statute of limitations says 12k miles and/or 12 months, either way it's only 2 and why would you go further than scion suggests for oil changes?
