5sp xD
can't find any around here to test drive. how are they? i didn't like the feel of the xB2, the clutch felt way too springy and it was impossible to judge where it was. does the xD feel as dull?
Hows the gas mileage? the stickers say 1mpg increase in city and highway, but with proper driving you'd think the stick would get significantly better mileage. i've managed well over EPA with every stick i've owned..
and of course, acceleration >:-D
how much better than the auto? id imagine it to be significant, yeah?

I test drove a 5-speed and decided to get a manual instead of an automatic. Other than saving money, I think it will be more fun. This is the first new car I'm buying which makes it easier to opt for manual. Not that I have anything to compare it with, but I did feel that the clutch was a little springy, requiring reasonable foot effort.
I'm still waiting for my xD to arrive, so I can't say anything about the mileage. As far as acceleration is concerned, it was fun pushing the car with the manual which I doubt would be possible with the AT.

I haven't driven a manual (don't know how ) but I can tell from my automatic that it should be very quick in response. It accelerates very nicely compared to my old car, and the gas mileage is about the same as the old car too. Then again I might not be finished with breaking it in so maybe the mileage will get better? I can get about 300mi on a tank which lasts me about a week and a day.

Its a good tranny, at least it feels good. It has the same soft pedal feel of all the other Scions, very forgiving.
I really do think its better than the tC tranny, but I chalk that up to it also not handling near as much tq/hp.

The gearbox itself is smooth enough, but one thing I *hate* about most modern stickshift cars is the way the ECM is programmed to kind of "hang on to" revs between shifts. I want them to drop naturally as in older cars, but such as it is, it makes it tougher to drive smoothly. Very annoying, and in some cases it's bad enough to push me into an automatic. The xD isn't the worst I've experienced, but it does do it....

maybe this is why the xb2 5sp test drive felt so .. wrong. im not the worlds best shifter or anything, but going from my z31 to the xb was night and day, and not in a good way. ill keep this in mind when i test drive the xd.

My xD is automatic. My first car was auto, my next vehicle was a manual truck, and now I have my Super White Auto xD. I got auto cause its easier on me since I've got a lil buggar I'm hauling around all the time. Being a hair shy of 20yrs old, I would have loved the manual though if I didn't have to worry about the little one.
