Default All door unlock when you turn off key?

I got a new car alarm installed two days ago in my ScionXD, and last night I pull open the gauge area to put some tape behind the speed gauge (as seen in the other thread here).

But now, I start to notice whenever I turn off the electrical system by turning off the ignition with car key, my ScionXD automatically unlock all 4 doors by itself. Before I didn't really notice it, I couldn't tell if this is by design or not (I haven't driven this car much at all). I wonder if the car alarm installation or me accessing the gauge system could have caused this? Or it's by default in Scion XD, that when you turn off the ignition, all doors are unlocked automatically?

Just want to make sure I am not dreaming

bB384,

I have been worried all night after I post this, as I couldn't figure out what I did that might have caused the door to all unlock. As you can tell I haven't driven my new ScionXD that much (2 weeks?). If I had, I might have noticed these little things...

Thanks a lot for your re-assurance, I very much appreciated your response!!!

So in your ScionXD the doors don't automatically unlock by themselves after turning off ignition. I didn't even know the alarm I got has this fearture. Not sure how this is helpful feature for an alarm system though lol...

Thanks for the confirmation!! From the responses so far, I figure out that by default, the doors don't open up by themselves when you turn off the engine.

I now think the alarm guy made the central door lock all the doors when turn on ignition, and unlock all doors when turn off ignition. I am not sure what advantage that do, but I got this features now with ScionXD.

Do your windows still work for 30 seconds when you remove the key?

My xD started doing this when I installed my TV in the hatch... It definitely did not do this before and I dont know what I did to cause it either...

On my '09, the windows continue to work after the key is removed until one of the front doors is opened, then it kills that function. Opening either of the back doors does not kill it. Of course, my wife always opens the doors while I'm still rolling the windows up, so then I have to put the key back in.

Mine will continue to work regardless of if the doors are opened or not... When I timed it, they continue to work for around 40 seconds...

Interesting... mine certainly stop working when either front door is opened... but only if the key has been removed, not just turned to the off position.

I just tried this window thing on my Scion. Once I turn off ignition even with key still in, and open the door, the windows stop working immediately, no delay at all.

I dont know about the window thing, but I've got an 08 xD and the doors have always unlocked whenever you take the keys out of the ignition.

my windows still roll for a short while after ignition is off. regardless if key is in or not. if you listen closely, you will hear a little "click" noise about 35-40 seconds after ignition is off. if you open ANY door it'll kill it. you gotta listen closely.

i use this feature regularly. turn key to "on" (but not started), and roll windows down while on lunch at work. it's a lot easier to quick on it rather than leave it in that "on" position to do the windows.

No, I don't have the Scion alarm system. When I worked for Toyota that was one of the first things I noticed about it too.

Though shortly after buying the xD I did put a Viper alarm on it.

Double check that... I think you'll find that opening a back door won't kill it.

Must be something Toyota can turn on and off. I have the VW computer hookup, and you can change that function, as well as whether you need to press the unlock button on the remote twice to unlock all doors or just once.

Huh... funny that our xD's behave differently in that respect.

The doors on my xD don't automatically open at all but my windows are able to be rolled down with my keys still in the ignition at off, until a door (any door) is opened.

I really wish that all the xD's were the same instead of "Oh hey my doors lock when I go in to park!" or something to that effect.
