I have an 08 xd with the factory alarm system. When all doors are closed and you turn the key to the on position all the doors will lock ( if any door is open, then the doors will not lock automatically). Then when I turn the key to the off position all the door automatically unlock. My windows works up to about 40 seconds after the key is turned to off position or until one of the front doors is open (opening the rear doors does not kill the windows).

This is EXACTLY what my 09 XD does, except I install the alarm at a local garage for cheaper price. I wonder if there is some pre-install program in the car that installer uses to make it behave this way.

Well I was told by a service manager that there are some xD's with the ability programmed in to the ECU and some who can't have that "turned on" at all, if you will. I have yet to get over to that dealer and have a guy see if he can do it on my car or what is possible on my car.

According to the owners manual, the power windows should operate for approximately 45 seconds after fully turning off the ignition switch.

The unlocking thing apparently can be changed (at the dealer) if the car has an automatic transmission. There was no way to change this function for my manual transmission xD when I went to the dealer the other day. (The tech, advisor, and I went though every setting available).

Seems odd that it would vary from car to car, unless a setting or modification was made since it rolled out of the factory.

WTF? My windows stop working as soon as the ignition is off, even if the key is in acc position. AND my doors don't unlock.

Before anyone opens a door? That's odd.

My xD used to function as yours does... I am assuming you have an 08?
The functionality of the windows changed when I got an ECU update for an oil consumption issue, but mine still does not do the door lock thing... problem is that the ecu that was updated is not the "body" ECU... so although mine did change with the ECU update, it should not have...
