It's cheaper than a MINI Cooper

Don't you think its well worth that money though? When I got mine I was second guessing what I just bought, but now I love it

It sort of depends. Pure pricing means that dealerships have to post their pricing menu at the dealership (and most have it online as well). The only factory installed option is the VSC, which will add $650 to the car.

Besides that, any markup that you pay on a Scion above $15,220 (MSRP + delivery for Manual) or $16,020 (automatic) should be for ala carte accessories. I've seen a lot of dealerships adding some of the most common ones like floor mats, cargo cover, etc. to up the actual price. But all of that stuff should be optional at the time of purchase. Now, if they've added a spoiler and the upgraded stereo, they aren't going to sell you that one. But for the most part, you should be able to work back to $15,220 of $16,020 by subtracting out accessories which are each individually priced.

OTD price is another thing altogether with tax, title, document fee... I've seen plenty of MSRP priced xD's around here... problem is they are all automatics. (and so I wait).

yeah when i say base price i mean the one that is being reported by everyone but toyota. Emunds puts the base price of an xD at $14550.. like the original post referred to.
http://www.edmunds.com/scion/xd/2008/index.html
But i was meaning you cant get one for $14550. Most every xD has atleast floor mats which scion says you cant remove options once they are there, so $15400 is about the cheapest i am seeing xDs go for. Still a darn good deal

well, there's the delivery fee, which is the same to almost everywhere in the US... so the REAL base price is $14550+$670 (raised from $620 on July 14). But you should still be able to buy one for $15,220, decline the floor mats and buy them for cheaper on trdsparks

my dealer originally added the floor mats, I called and told him to subtract them from the order. I never asked for them. It was 15,200 (manual) with nothing added as you can see in my first post. Absolute base price is 15200, so where the hell do they get that 14 from ?

Just picked up my 08 SW xD. My car arrived at the dealership with NO options. I told the dealer to add what I wanted but I could have bought the car for the base price plus delivery, plus taxes, titling, tags, paperwork fee, etc.

The dealer I worked with does not add options to try to jack up the cost of the Scions on his lot.

The MSRP is an 08 xD is $14,550... you double counted the delivery fee in your post... I hope they didn't snooker you on that. The delivery fee is $670 (as of July 14), so the price WITH delivery fee should be $15,220 for a Base manual.

EDIT: Ah, I figured it out... you car must have VSC...

$14,550+$650=$15,220+$670 delivery... etc, etc

Nope, I can e-mail the price breakdown, no VDC?? WTH??? I'm getting this from Kendall Toyota, a fairly big dealership. They told me 15820 is the base price. If they added VDC, they never asked.

Update, I called and asked them why the Scion.com says 15220 for the base model and the base model on http://www.kendalltoyotaofanchorage.com/ was 15820? He said "I don't know"... No joke, I asked if that was Toyota's answer to me and he said he could take my name and # and have Shawn Marshall (Sales Manager) get back to me, but he was busy right now. As he is every time I call. I really want this car but these guys lack of customer service is starting to tick me off.

Final update, called another Kendall out in OR, they said 15220 is base price, and if you check scion.com its 15220, not 14550 so its consistent across the board. 15820 is with the 670 shipping added. My MSRP is 15820 an additional 500 for delivery to AK, so much for pure pricing.

I don't know if this helps any but right on the scion website it says that the MSRP of $15,220 includes delivery, processing and handling fees. So if they're trying to charge you 2x for delivery then you will have to correct them. Sorry that you gota deal with these guys, I know too well what it's like to have to fight with the dealer. Just wanted to show some support for ya.

Yup, $15,220 is base WITH the $670 delivery included. Could be extra shipping to Alaska... that makes sense. Sucks, but what can you do? You live in Alaska.

Also, pure price only means that they list the price up front. MOST dealerships list the price at the MSRP, but some jack it up. As long as their listed base price is jacked up, its still Kosher under Scion's formula. They're probably just ripping you off because they can.

Base price is $15,200. ($15,220.) which includes destination charge of $670., so I don't see where you're coming up with an additional $500. for dest. Are you saying the dealer in OR charged an additional $500. to transport it to the dealer in AK? I also don't see any sales tax included in your breakdown. $199.00 doc fee is high. Nice that you got a military discount. Wish dealerships offered a Senior Citizen or Disabled discount.

Ya, 500 just got a call from Kendall customer service to ask me how my experience was, I told it took them 10 days to sell me a car long distance and they were surprised. They said AK has an tax on incoming cargo and they don't see that $500.00. On the plus side there is no sales tax in Anchorage which is nice.

Considering that I'm going to pay almost $1400 in tax in New York, you should consider yourself very lucky.
