Dash vibration/rattle at 1,200 miles
This was really unexpected - I have an upper console vibration when you accelerate.
Not good for a car with only 1,200 miles. It appears to be in the upper right corner of the middle console. As you gas the car the vibration gets louder.
Has anyone else experienced any dash noise?
No other issues..... love the car otherwise. But NEED to deal with this. Noises make me crazy...

Yup, right above the radio towards the window, about midway between the radio and the window. Rev to around 3k and it peaks, then it dies down. Hold your finger down firmly where I mentioned above, it should go away. Either A, do this yourself, or B take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it. Pull the radio and put some foam/felt/towel/etc in there to pad the vibration. I'm not exactly sure where it was coming from, but I put some foam in a bunch of places. It's gone now.

It's just something that you have to pad. It's not very hard at all. Pull the waterfall off (grab on the top behind it and firmly pull with fingertips for the first to clips, then do the same for the bottom two clips), and look in there, it's not hard to figure out where it's coming from, although I padded all over.

Oh I'm sure its cake, but tell that to a lot of daily drivers who could care less about tuning their car and they'll go bonkers because they want nothing to do with removing parts. My parents Altima was recalled because the button holding the armrest down was 'faulty' and would rattle, simple as twisting it out and replacing it but we had to bring it to the nissan dealership. lol

ive got that same rattle, and its gotten worse with louder exhaust... been trying to track it down, lol. ill have to look into this, cause damn its annoying.
mine is coming from between the radio area and the steering wheel somewhere, sounds like mine might be the same thing, but on the drivers side.

I had that vibration too and did track it down...However, it did require I remove the top dash panel. The source of the noise is the HVAC ducting coming from the top of the HVAC unit that feeds the center vents at the center console. This ducting snaps into place at the HVAC unit under the dash...I had to remove the top dash, unsnap the ducting from the HVAC unit then apply adhesive felt to the perimeter of the duct, snap back into HVAC unit and that was it. I haven't had the rattle in over 6 months...I too at first thought it was the trim hitting the radio, but wasn't. If you're mechanically inclined, remove the dash...You can see some of my pictures with the top of the dash off here:

I actually slightly notice it again. What else holds the top dash on? On the passenger side, I think there's a bolt holding it on that you have to come up from behind to take out, correct? As in reach up and under to get behind it, not just reach right to it, get what I am saying? What else do you have to take off? I've had everything to do with the waterfall off, all obvious screws out and I couldn't get it off. It was getting late and I was getting irritated though, maybe that's it.
Also, is it those two rectangular pieces of ducting in that picture that you linked to?

I have that rattle and I have a rattle that is on my driver's door right at the bottom left corner of the window. Right by the door and the rubber. When I push on that corner of the window that rattling stops, when I let go it comes back.
I'd take it in to Toyota/Scion but I don't want to have to pay for the labor. Shouldn't that be covered though? :?

Common issue
First year gremlins I guess, folks Scion needs to hear about this. Not sure about the best way though.. at least have your dealer document it next service.
These things should be under warranty.
Good to know the dash comes right out in case it ever gets scratched. Kudos for the sharp fellow that figured out how to take that out
Thanks for the feedback-

Wow that's interesting--so there's a dash rattle in the xD..hmm-- It should be covered under the warranty if there is a manufacturer's defect causing it--
And the best way for Toyota/Scion to know about it would be to have the dealership diagnose / document it and contact Scion directly about it-- I'd say the best way (so that it's documented at HQ) would be to contact Scion via phone- 866-707-2466--
It's possible that it could be turned into a Technical service bulletin for a fix for the rattle--!!

Chels, i also have an issue like that. I thought it was just the car tweaking a bit, or the bass from the speakers causing some issue, but there is a problem similiar to what you mention.
Also, anyone have TRD lowering springs have any "creaking" in the back at all while slowly moving? Sort of sounds like styrafoam creaking loudly with something muffling it.

Hrm ok. So I guess I'll swing by my dealer this afternoon and have them take a look at it and see what they can do about the rattles. Just tell them to document it and then tell them to contact Scion Corp. about it or should I contact Scion the rattles?
Forgive me my brain is fried from two summer classes lol.

Actually, Ive went through this too, and i found it to be the guage cluster surround piece. i pulled it off, checked all the tabs, gave em a good couple taps, put it back in, and i havent heard anything since. that surround isnt very secure, with how easily it comes out, im pretty sure itd be just as easy for it to become loosened or something

I had a rattling noise coming from my glove box. It's very sutle but I noticed it and when I hold down the top glove compartment it goes away. Also, tmrepp I have the TRD lowering springs and I haven't heard the noise yet. I'm at work now and I'll drive home with the radio off tonight and tell you if I hear anything.

I actually got my springs already installed in my car. I know it costs a lot more for the dealer to put them in but it's covered under the same warranty now so that's why I did it; anyway, I wouldn't know about the rubber wrapping, and I also didn't notice any noise coming from them. See if you can talk to your dealer and ask them if they know anyting about it.
