On Toyota/Lexus/Scions, the ECU or Engine Control Unit will have nothing to do with auto-locking. All products Toyota makes have a computer inside the vehicle called the Multiplex Unit. This unit controls all body functions including auto-locking. To date, I have never heard of a flash update for a Multiplex unit. In fact, if it isn't factory installed, you won't get it. I know some of Toyota's alarm systems, (RS3200) you can program the auto locking, but on the xD, you cannot. I have the Scion alarm and this function is not available.

Thanks, Slodeanis. The Scion web site goes into lots of details about the auto-lock feature. They should really mention it's for 2009 and newer only.

I just had a quick chat with Brandi Cherry at Scion.com and was told the video was posted in error. She informed me that the xD doesn't offer this feature even in the new 2009 model.

See, that's what I thought. Someone here has an 2009, and even they couldn't get it to work. I thought it must be a website error. Whoops!

well that's good and bad, good cause I felt like an idiot last night trying to program the darn thing ('09 by the way) for about half an hour before I gave up . And bad since I think the auto lock is a good idea, my IS has it and love the safety feature of locking after taking the car out of P.

That's too bad. This was one of the features I was happy about getting with my new 09. I specifically watched that video on their site and made note of how to activate the auto lock. Perhaps they should remove the video considering I'm not the only person to be expecting this feature.

I won't trust Scion's website anymore... It's dishonest and deceiving.

Right before 08 xD rolled out, it had the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) listed as a standard feature on Scion.com
When the cars arrived at my local dealership in August, I bought one without double-checking its features. And, I ended up with one without VSC, which is very important for a snow country I live in.

This year, again, it listed features that doesn't exist on 09 xD's on their website.

Is it that hard to double check the features on the cars and on their stupid website, before they even publish it? Scion should be very careful with their website content, given that a large proportion of young generation relies heavily on the internet in making decisions.

Call up Scion Corp and complain about their website not being accurate. It is very irritating to have that video be uploaded giving everyone that special feeling only to find out that it doesn't work for us in real life.

However, it is also your fault for not double checking the car had everything you wanted on it before finalizing the deal.

Sounds like he was already painfully aware of his mistake. "When the cars arrived at my local dealership in August, I bought one without double-checking its features."

To update this:

I stopped by Tustin Toyota/Scion today and asked the service manager about the autolocks on the 2009 xD. BATMAN714 showed me that his xD does in fact have auto locking doors ~3 weeks ago.

The service manager told me that all 2009 xD's have this ability, but it is up to the dealer to turn it on. 2008 xD's may or may NOT have this ability.

Take your xD in to your dealer, talk to the service manager and have them check to see if your xD is able to have this turned on.

Thanks for the info. I've got an oil change coming up and I'll be sure and ask.

Help! I just bought an xD on Halloween 2012 and tried following these steps, but I can't get it to work. What am I doing wrong?

Sadly this feature was not included in the xD (at least not in the US). I suspect it was planned since there were videos on the Scion web site showing how to program it.

Hmmmm This is an old issue! I have the 08 XD and there was not any option, so I built and installed my own...

Look here
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=178779

BTW, It works absolutely great. Locks the doors when car goes 3mph in either direction, opens all locked doors when either front door is opened, or all the doors when the ignition is turned off.

How about in a crash? Would it automatically unlock for that? Factory installed units will usually unlock all doors in the event of a crash.

The system unlocks the doors when the motor is off
or when either of the front doors are opened and the car is not moving
