Headlights on warning tone not working
New guy here. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I searched for threads on this, but didn't find any. (My apologies if I missed something.) My XD has a couple of minor nagging little problems, which I would like to fix if I can.
First, the Headlight waring tone does not come on if you leave your headlights on when you turn off the car and walk away. Two or three times lately I have driven during rainy daytime weather with lights on, and when I came out of a store saw my headlights still burning. I THINK there used to be a warning tone that I had left the lights on. Any ideas on that?
Second, the dome light no longer comes on for the driver's side door, no matter where I put the light switch. On most older cars (which is what I am familiar with) I would suspect the simple little switch on the driver's door A-pillar post. But with these darn modern computerized cars, who knows? Anyway, normally I would expect to jiggle that switch until I got a flicker, and that would ID the culprit. But nothing this time. Has anyone experienced this?
I'm glad to find this forum. I bought this thing just wanting to cut fuel costs, but I have grown to like it. If it just had an armrest, and if I could conveniently make it talk to my Sandisk MP3 player, I would love it.
(I know...I'm a dinosaur!)

Light on Beeper
Hi there!
You have 2 problems that point to the same fault. There is a small rubber booted switch in the driver side pillar that is the door open switch. If you would, try opening the door with the engine running. If there is no indication that a door is open, I do believe either a connector came off, or the switch is bad. You could try "playing" with the switch and see if that clears the problem. It might be stuck, or maybe some foreign material on the contacts or lastly the seitch is just bad. You can easily get to the switch by lifting off the door panel cover at the bottom of the door on the floor, driver side. Lift the pillar side first, and then it comes off. Then you'll be able to lift away the pillar covering and se the switch that is mounted on the door pillar. It is a small white plastic molex with a black and white wire. If you want to test it, put a jumper on one side to ground. The dome light AND the beeper should operate. That ought to give you enough info to get the problem resolved. You could try flooding the switch with some WD40 to try cleaning the contacts and making sure it actuates. I had put in a series switch on mine so that when I open the door (and leave it open) the cabin lights don't go on, and my stereo keeps playing even with the key off....
Good Luck!

Hey! I just realized that I never got back here to report my results, and to thank Bwhite for terrific information. Your instructions worked perfectly, and for less than $20 I bought a new switch, and fixed this problem myself. Grateful for your help!!
