Default How much do you pay for insurance?

I'm 27. Haven't had any accident or ticket in 5+ years. I have always been insured.

I'm driving a 2008 Scion XD with the following insurance:

100/300 Bodily Injury and Uninsured Motorist
50 Property Damage Liability
Comp and Coll $500

And everywhere I quote I get $800-$1000 for 6 months!

I read online how people only pay that for an entire year. It seems Collision is where the biggest price difference is. But this car is too new to take off collision insurance and I still owe another $5k on the car.

I live in Los Angeles and was curious what you all are paying and what your break down is.

I'd love to lower my insurance but I can't seem to figure out how. If I play with the Bodily Injury and Uninsured all it does is lower by a few dollars which isn't worth it.

Only removing collision seems to bring me down to prices I hear other people pay.

I'm currently paying $942 with 21st. Geico can get me to $860 with $1000 deductible. Still not much of a difference. I could cut it down to $760 by having 15/30 bodily injury but that is just a death sentence for so little savings. If I raise my deductible to $500 I'm at $900 which is only a $40 difference from my 21st century insurance.

So I've shopped around and the most I'm saving for similar insurance is $50-$100. Not really worth the hassle. What am I doing wrong to get those sweet car insurance prices? Or is the Scion XD just a ____ load to insure.

So what do you pay? Who are you insured with?

Some people pay less because they get discounts from multiple cars, military, lojack, etc.
Some people have more drivers than cars, so being an "extra driver" without having a main car associated with the driver can save money.
Some have it under their parent's perfect records.

I'm sure not a lot of people have their insurance limits set as high as you have it.

Try www.wawanesageneral.com
They only insure good drivers.
I saved over $500a year for the exact same coverage switching from esurance.

He lives in Los Angeles...yay for high rates =)
Rates also seem to vary based on where the car is parked at night.

I live in SoCal.
My 07 Scion costs LESS to insure than my 01 Civic...stupid ricers.

I pay 481 for 6 months. I just turned 29 and have no speeding tickets. My insurance is through Statefarm. My family has had them since the late 70s.

I've got a '11 tC, and not an xD. I had a Fit before, which I imagine would be in the same category as far as insurance goes.

My current insurance is about $1000/6 mos., but that includes my two vehicles (the '11 tC and a '08 Kawasaki Ninja 650R) as well as my renters insurance. The jump in insurance going from the Fit (which seems to be driven mainly by middle-aged women) to the TC raised it considerably. I may shop around for a different insurer, though State Farm is notoriously cheap for insurance on Sport-Bikes, and I'm not sure if I'd get a better deal overall elsewhere.

Yeah it seems like being single, only having one car on the plan, living in Los Angeles, and not combining a bunch of other insurances (renters, etc.) is what is screwing me over.

If you don't mind me asking. How old are you? I'll be 28 in May, and don't feel that young anymore. At least not like an 18 year old anymore. I can understand the screwover when your in your late teens early 20s, but I'm in my late 20s now (*gulp* ).

Ok... So, looked it up: my '11 TC is 560/6 mos. Not terrible I suppose, but the Fit was ~330. It's almost like a little underpowered econobox is less likely to be involved in a roadway incident than a 2 door sport coupe with 50% more power!

Yup! Outside of the XD having more power, better equipped standard, and styling better than the Fit, I was on the fence on which to buy. Checking with insurance showed the Fit was cheaper than the XD for a policy. The difference was negligible, but I asked why. They said probably it was because replacement parts were more expensive on the XD.

I remember when ii was gonna get the fit. And the only reason ii didn't was because the dealership said ii had to wait a month so ii can have the sport 6spd version. Find that odd but then again. Most cars here are auto. Anyways the xd is a pretty good car lol
