More trunk space?
#2
I don't know about the xA space, but coming from my 1999 Corolla its not a problem for me. There's enough room for me to put bulky items back there, or for bigger stuff just fold down the back seats.
Is there something in particular you're wanting to know could fit?

uhmm... from just glancing, the xD seemed to have more floor area to put stuff on than my xA in the cargo space, but on paper it's probably about even due to the height. coming from an xA, i'd prefer the larger floor space.

Less space but more usable...how is that possible?
I checked out the xD for my self yesterday and I can hardly notice any difference in space. Maybe the cargo space in the back is a few inches more deep, but not worth upgrading IMO.

what do you mean, how is that possible? there is less overall space, but it is more usable.....
for example, a car could be cut down 1" interior space, taking away a significant "amount" of storage space, but the cargo area could be spread out further, giving more floor space. This would have a.) less space than the previous model, and b.) more usable space overall. the reason; it's much easier to put a bunch of small items on the floor vs. stacking them on top of each other...
i wouldn't recommend upgrading to an xD from an xA either, based on cargo space alone. but again, we are comparing two subcompacts, so there are many other factors to consider. size and cargo space shoudn't be dominating aspects when buying a subcompact...

With the seats up I could fit my old 8" bazooka longitudally in the xD - that's an impossible feat in the xA.
Also -bringing 2 6-foot bookcases from Target and a largish leather ottoman in one trip with the hatch closed - another thing impossible in the xA.
On the other hand - I can carry 20 40lbs bags of pine nuggets in the xA - something I wouldn't want to do in the xD because I wouldn't want to dirty up my own car :D

I forgot the seats were reclyined..i retract my statement. I was let down from the grocery trip and couldnt hold my normal amount of drink cases... after returning seats to norm I am certain I am fine.

That's more of the "usable" space thing I was pointing out - the xB1 probably does have more "space," but simply because it's boxed shape - a lot of the space is unusable for the most part because the square layout counts - roof, roof corners, etc. Kinda hard to fit stuff up there...
If space is a big hang-up, go for the xB2. It is HUGE (if i remember right, it's platform is from the Camry - not quite as big, but still much larger than the xD). The xB2 wasn't as fun to drive as the xD IMO, but it was still very comfortable, especially if you plan on putting big guys in the back seat (or using all 5 seats for more than a 5 minute drive).

^ did you see anything on rear legroom for the xBs? you'd figure that since they have the same trunk space, the larger one would have significantly more leg room, but who knows... numbers never tell the whole story, though.

that just doesn't sound right... is the xb2 more comfortable, at least? the back seat looked like it could comfortably hold 3 midsized people, vs the xas.. i can fit 3 of my bigger guy friends back there, but that doesn't mean it's comfortable for them..
