TOTALLY! How much would need converting in order to make this happen? Would you need a whole new axle or just some of the brake components? I'm not much of an expert at all (duh).

Not odd... they are officially on the metric system. That's why fuel is in liters. Just imagine if we (in the US) switched to the metric system tomorrow. People would still talk about gallons, quarts, pints, ounces, etc. for years to come. That's what we learned, and that's what we know.

6 US gallons = 5 Imperian gallons.

They "officially" use the metric system, but still commonly use Imperial gallons. I buy and sell lots of stuff from Canada and the UK and they all list ingredients in Imperial gallons. Look at any UK car website and you'll see MPG (that's miles per gallon... two non-metric measurements in one!).
So it seems. Pretty odd since last time I purchased fuel in Canada it was per litre. What's the conversion rate? 4/5 Gallon?
It depends on which gallon you're talking about... a US gallon is 3.785 liters whereas an Imperial gallon is 4.546 liters (courtesy of Wikipedia)

It's true that the UK is officially on the metric system, but the do measure distance in miles... which is why you normally see the MPG measurement used.

Also, on the UK note... our car is actually considered a standard sized vehicle over there, if a little big honestly. In an area of the world dominated by Peugeot 206's and Renault Clio's our car weighs in on the larger side.

True dat... I just spent 2 weeks in Prague, and the xD would have been on the larger side. Most of the "larger" cars were Skoda Superbs, which are really just the long-wheelbase Passat rebadged for Skoda. Most of those are taxis, and they are pretty comfortable since there is a LOT of leg room in the back.

Most cars were pretty small and had 1.4-1.9L diesel engines or 1.2-1.4L gas engines. By far most of them were diesels... but at $5.80 a gallon, can you blame them?

Bender I don't think that you would have to change the axle, it would take a little work though. You'd have to add caliper mounts, maybe change the master cylinder, and convert the rear wheel hub. Other than that I don't think there is too much that would have to be done other than painting those calipers!!

My question about the brakes would be: what else has to change? Is the master cylinder the same? Brake booster? ABS pump? VSC program?

True the WTF factor is pretty high, but remember, you're talking euros NOT american dollars. I think it is more expensive, but honestly, i havent built a totally optioned out one and then converted it to USD yet, but its my strong hunch its more money than ours.

Ha! It helps to use the right currency converter too

Much more expensive. The one I did was 19,800 Euro and converted over to roughly $28,093.74 US

A fully optioned out xD comes in at nearly $21,000 though....

OK, to answer my own question I just built an xD, with virtually every option.
I got the AWD diesel option and the purple(deep Amethyst) mica paint (it was extra).
I listed the other options that were included and my available options that i selected (i choose them all BTW). Here was the total.

Price EUROS:----------------------Price US Dollars:
Vehicle: £16,400.00 .............................$23,274.25
Paint: £370.00 ...........................................$ 525.12
Option: £2,970.00 ...................................$ 4214.45
--------------------------------
Total price: £19,740.00 .........................$28,013.82
I used the website xe.com to do the monetary conversion.
**Its equivalent for today's date.

True that we would have all liked to see the options available here, but in the US getting folks to pony up nearly $30 grand for our vehicle seems a bit far-fetched.

Here's what came w/the vehicle:
Climate Control Air Conditioning
16" high gloss alloy wheels
Rear privacy glass
Smart entry & smart start
VSC and TRC and all around disc brakes
7 SRS Airbags
Bluetooth connectivity
Roof Spoiler
Front Fog Lamps
Electrically Retractable Mirrors with turn signal
Practical storage spaces located throughout the vehicle
ECO shift indicator to assist economical driving
Optional Intelligent All Wheel Drive (Diesel Only)
Rear parcel shelf - removable***UH HELLO did they INCLUDE the cargo area cover thing??!?!I think they did!!
Seat Height adjustment - driver, manual***Included too apparently!!
Adjustable steering column - tilt and telescopic***I dont think ours telescopes?Frig.
Steering wheel with leather trim***also not avail to us. grr.
Pollen filter
Clean air filter***I guess THEY were important enough to get free included filters!!
16" 5-spoke high-gloss alloy wheels with locking wheelnuts
Three year / 60,000 mile mechanical warranty
Three year unlimited mileage paint warranty
Twelve year unlimited mileage anti corrosion perforation warranty

I added the following options TOO:
Leather 840.00 EUR = 1,190.87 USD
Enhance the look of your Urban Cruiser with these two-tone Furano leather seats. 100% leather seat facings in dual tone anthracite and Slate Grey with silver double stitch detail on the outer seams and perforation on the inner panels.
Style Pack 400.00 EUR = 567.550 USD
Make a statement with the style pack featuring chrome scuff plates, alloy pedals, a leather/aluminium handbrake and chrome front strips.
Tech Pack 450.00 EUR = 638.494 USD
Further enhance the entertainment factor of your Urban Cruiser with the tech pack, featuring an iPod/iPhone/USB integration kit and a digital audio tuner.
Urban Pack 450.00 EUR = 638.494 USD
Protect your Urban Cruiser with the Urban pack featuring rear parking sensors, a Rear bumper protection plate and Black corner and side mouldings.

Well, you have to remember. The Scion cars are the cheap end of Toyota meant to get you to want something better in the Toyota, or Lexus, lineup down the road. They're not going to give us most of those nice things (seat adjustment would be nice though, can't be that pricey) for an "entry level" car :?

It really sucks to see the xD's counterparts getting better options than us but.. I can see why as well.

I'd rock the D-4D in a heartbeat, especially with AWD. Although, the 1.8 is a good little engine.
