What do u think about xD advertising campaign (deviants)?
What do u think about xD's advertising campaign???
Here is one of the many commercials: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Set1KKd6HKM
My $0.02, I find it offensive & distasteful. Personally, I'd do not be affiliated with anything of the sort, as it is contradictory to my beliefs. If anything it drives to away from the "Scion" brand.

i don't believe in sheeple.
why take it off the air just cause you don't like it? do you think it makes me want to cut your head off and put it on my car? cause it doesn't. so no worries, you're safe.
i don't believe in sheeple.
they should take the simpsons off the air, cause itchy and scratchy are mean to each other. and that show, two and a half men, what's up with two grown men living together? that just ain't right.
i don't believe in sheeple.
maybe i'm wrong. maybe it's not just a silly cartoon that fails to show off the car. maybe it's a plot, like halloween three. ACK! i'm gonna turn into a short chubby horned blob and my car will be flooded with crickets! oh well, at least i'll have a nice head on my xD.

I think its clever. It is true that it doesn't do a great job of showing off the car, but it is refreshingly different at least. So many car spots lack any real creativity. Even though I'm not really into the dark imagery represented in the ad, I'm 35 and not in the target demographic anyway. Bottom line, I support anything Scion wants to do that keeps creativity and originality in the way the brand represents itself and especially in the actual products themselves. I'm much more concerned by signs that the Scion division is NOT taking risks and instead pandering to the lowest common denominator. Let Scion be free and crazy and different. Keep the Toyota boringness on the other side of that little wall in the showroom PLEASE.

Haven't seen any commercials really other than one in the theaters after I had bought my car. Also played their online game for the Sheeples or w/e it was. Not bothered by it but it is a bit strange angle to get the younger people to pay attention

who cares? it's just something to draw attention. i am sure when someone sees an xD on the road, the last thing on their mind is that there is some evil guy behind the wheel.
:: rolling eyes ::
it's a marketing campign to draw attention. do you think people won't like the new audi r8 because they say it brings "death" to old luxury cars?
point made.

That ad campaign encompasses the core values of the Scion Marque. By stating that you don't like what Scion has put together, you are contradicting your own self interest in the brand. Scion vehicles are about breaking out from conformity, which the sheeple represent.
The deviants are not meant to characterize the consumers purchasing the car, but more acting as a metaphor that Scion buyers are much less conventional than the other drivers currently on the road today. Highly creative? Yes. Highly effective as well? Definitely. Overall, ad agency Attik did a great job in my opinion. The critics that remain skeptical of the campaign give Scion exactly what they want, free publicity!

Say what you will, but the religious implications that campaign suggests is NOT something I as a Scion owner want to be branded with.
Just like everybody has the right to speak, u also have the rite to be a "deviant" if u so choose. Just don't force others to associate with it against their own Free Will.

I don't believe in angels and Heaven. Does that mean that I should be offended and stop enjoy the delicious flavor of Philadelphia Jammin' Swirls with my morning bagel after seeing this commercial?

Do I think other people associate me with a certain set of religious beliefs that are contrary to my own personal beliefs because I really enjoy the delicious flavor of Philadelphia Jammin' Swirls?
No.
You know what that commercial does? It makes me want to eat more delicious Philadelphia Jammin' Swirls.

Philadelphia Swirls just ain't the same as what I'm talkin about, mainly because it is eating and never worn or driven or in any "real" way displayed for others to view.
On the contrary, drinks like "gatoraid" or beer is seen in the public eye. Items like jerseys/clothing, equipment (sporting to almost anything one can imagine), etc... are.
The point is people instantly associate items with it's intended advertised message and/or personality behind it.
Jordan for example is instantly thought of (at least for me) when gatoraid is present or the 'Jordan' brand. Buick, I think of Tiger Woods.. Or simply seeing an Energizer battery, the idea "it keeps going & going & going..." and NyQuil which prevents a sick person from "nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, fever, best sleep you ever got with a cold medicine."
Personally, I find those last 2 commercials extremely annoying, however people remember those and instantly associate with them. Originally, Energizer ran a bad campaign because people would remember their commercial and the pink bunny but wouldn't know which company it was, but we see they've remedied that problem.
So anyways, the point is people do associate brands with it's campaign otherwise advertising wouldn't be as effective as it is. So again, I for one don't want to be associated with the "deviant slogan" against my own Free Will.
