I am planning to get my very first set of rims. I want to get some 17's, and I have df's. Would this set up 17x7 +42 5x100 be fine? without fender rolling, camber, spacer needed, etc? And sorry I am new to this.

Also, any suggestions on rims?

I got some ideas in mind.
- Kyowa KR210 black
- Rota G Force flat black
- VELOCITY VW035 black

 

You are more than fine with that setup and the df's.
I'm on df's with 18x8 +45 offset wheels and have no rubbing issues and no fender rolling or camber.

Is it true that less offset means the wheels will stick out more? Or is it the other way around?

 

Correct...The lower the offset the more towards the fender the wheel will sit...Often referred to as the more "flushed" look...The higher the offset the more "sunk in" the wheel will be, meaning it will sit more inside the fender well area...

And yes, the above set up you mentioned will be fine without any modifications needed...

basically the positive millimeter offset, is how many millimeters the mounting surface of the wheel is from the center of the wheel

depends on how aggressive you want to look vs how much trouble you want fitting the wheel. 18x8 +35 is a pretty good outline for about as wide and low offset wise you can get without doing any kind of body work. (also depends on your drop.)

but as long as youre not looking for a "flush" stance out of your wheels, what youre looking at should fit fine.

 

18x8 +35 with Tanabe DF210's can not be run without some kind of fender mods...I had to grind the inner fender lip to run my set up...I also rubbed on bumps when I had the same set up with my old TRD springs...I had ZERO problems with 18x7.5 +45 offset though when I used to run that...

o yea... how about size AND brand of tires? 205/50/17 or 215/45/17?

I asked for 205/50/17, and got an offer of hercules tires, but not sure which one of hercules.

 

I'm running the right tire, 225/40/18...I will not run a rubber band tire, 215/35/18 on 18" rims...The ride sucks...Now if I wanna go lower, which I do eventually, I would need to run a little stretch...For example, probably a 215/40/18 or 205/40/18...

As far as the 17" rim goes, I would run a 215/45/17

 

215 will make the car about 1 inch lower than 205, but I think 215 costs more. I guess it is worth it for that inch =]

Actually, those changes don't affect lowering dimensions...The 215 tire is wider than a 205 tire...For your 17x7 rim, go with either a 215/45/17 or 225/45/17...As for tires, it's all a matter of personal choice...

Go to tirerack.com and do a search for the particular tire size that you want...It will come up with a list of tires and each will have a "score" with "10" being the highest...For example, the General Exclaim UHP scored an 8.3...Click on the tire and it breaks it down into several catergories...Click on SURVEY'S to see how it performed in all areas...You can do this with all the tires...I just picked this tire because it seems to be perform nicely and it's priced really well...Plus it finished 4th out of 43 tires tested...It's a high performance summer tire though...Excellent rain and dry weather but ZERO snow...Hope this helps...By the way, I have ordered tires from them before and their customer service is AWESOME...Their prices are great too...

Actually you can run up to a 20" wheel on the xD... It all depends on the look and how often you drive and what kind of roads are in your area! I have been running on my Volk Progressive ME 19x8(front) 19x8.5(rear) with 225/35/19 for almost 2 years now AND I have one of the most aggressive lowering spring drops possible with Sprint Springs... I didn't have to roll my fenders or anything it fits perfect with no kind of fender rubbing! I did however have to detach part of the front fender plastics in the wheel well cause I would rub when I made hard cutting turns (U-turns and hard right/left)... But you can run a 17" or 18" wheel with almost any offset and you will be fine!

 

Thats just straight up wrong. on an 8" rim, go over +48 and you run into backspacing problems, go under +35 and you start looking at rubbing/fitment issues depending on your drop, and go under +20 and you start poking your wheels out of the fenders big time.

 

Good luck finding wheels with those offsets in the style and size that the average xD owner will buy in the price range that the average xD owner will pay and in the color that the average xD owner will run.....If you want an offset crazy like that then you are NOT the average xD owner and YOU will be willing to d what it takes to make that offset look the sickest ever on your xD

 

both Subaru and Volkswagen use our bolt pattern, as well as a lot of universal 5 lug wheels. any wheel that uses the standard offset of a subaru will be +48 or higher, and volkswagens can fit 9.5 +15offset all day in the rear, its very easy for someone that isnt familiar with offsets to buy a set of subaru wheels and ruin the look because they have these really sunken in wheels, or buy a set of volkswagen wheels and be unable to fit them because they are too wide /poke too much. not to mention the universal 5 lug wheels in rear wheel drive offsets that you will have trouble fitting on our cars. If this was you and I having a conversation, then we'd have an understanding, but we are helping people that dont fully understand the difference between a 7" wide wheel at +48 offset and a 9.5" wide wheel at +15 offset
