I am thinking instead of weather stipping tape, how about wide gap foam spray?

I honestly have been having this issue lately on my 2015 Scion tC, I randomly started hearing it one day. I'm not sure if I really wanna do this,
but considering, I work for a body shop I guess if I mess it up I can always have them fix it lol! Thanks for the information.

Self-stick furniture pads may last longer than window stripping. Mine are seven years old and still work fine. Approximately 1/8th inch thickness should work.
Open the hatch and look at the rear bumper cover. You should see two divots (where the soft rubber hatch bumpers meet the rear bumper cover.) Stick one furniture pad to each divot. This will close the gap between the lower hatch bumpers and the rear bumper cover, preventing the upper hatch bumpers from clunking together.

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying a used 2008 tC and when I was test driving it I heard the same problem.
The current pics are not showing.
Could someone update one these posts with some pics?

The following two pics are the hard-rubber bumpers that support the weight of the closed hatch. You have one set on each side of the hatch.
Over time, they clunk together when the hood is latched. To reduce noise, some folks put self adhesive, foam-rubber weather stripping between these bumpers.
The following pic is the soft rubber bumper that prevents metal to metal contact. You have two of these, one on each side of the hatch lid. Unfortunately, they're too small and too soft to keep the hard bumpers from clunking together.
Here's a self-stick furniture pad that closes the gap between the soft rubber bumper and the rear bumper cover. If you go this route you'll need two pads, approximately 1/8 inch thick.

Finishing touch 2 this AWESOME solution..
OMG, thank you.. that's had me going crazy for months now.. * just another tip for those who may still hear some noise after this AWESOME resolve .. get those sticky furniture pads you put under the feet, like felt/carpet with stick 'em backs (you can stack them if necessary to add thickness), unscrew the hatch bumpers, stick those over the screw bumper hole, put the bumper w/the pad on top and screw the damned thing down through the pads, into the mount opening until seated.. THOSE doesn't squish enough to flatten out and yup, works like freakin magic as the finishing touch.. TA-DA!!
