Look, I know it's frustrating when something goes wrong with a vehicle we've invested so much time and money in. And for those of you who've had problems, I know you probably feel let down by Toyota.

But let's keep it in perspective. ...
I fully understand your perspective too. But we're not talking about seat fabric that rips or stock radios that repeatedly eat CD's. No joke, we're talking about something that can potentially kill you. Luckily according to the info on nhtsa.gov, there's only been 1 injury out of the 9 reported incidents, but it doesn't take too far a stretch of the imagination to think of how such a failure occurring in the car at the right moment can lead to much worse result.

And i can tell you that I'm not so much "frustrated" as I am "extremely concerned" for my own safety, and truthfully, for the safety of others.

Buster, I know how you feel. I love my TC, I enjoy driving it, working on it and looking at it after I wash it. But as ridiculous as it sounds I was/am on the verge of trading it in. On one hand, I feel like that would be admitting defeat and taking the easy way out. It's paid for, I like it and taking a $$$ hit because of some minor noises seems extreme. On the other hand, I have a really bad feeling about what it is going to sound like when it has 50k miles on it. (or am I supposed to have traded it in for a Toyota by then) Is the sunroof going to be broken or stuck open? Is the interior even going to be there is it going to have rattled away?

The way Toyota is treating their problems reeks of the arrogance that lead GM to the brink of bankruptcy.

Okay, the even more ironic thing is that besides the roof, my tC has had ZERO issues! No fragile paint chipping, no rattling hatch, no stubborn radio door, etc... Fit/finish of the tC from my experience has been flawless. *sigh* If people can live with the roof issues, then I think the car is really awesome. Too bad you had other issues with yours.

nine incidents and one injury, out of 112,800 cars sold. doesn't seem too bad to me.

we hear about all the bad stuff that goes on with people's tCs, like gotti's saga, and this sunroof thing, but think of all the people out there that have little/no problems with them. i never see any posts of people coming home from work saying how well their car performed today, and how they didn't have any problems with it.

Hey, I hear ya. Statistically, it seems miniscule. But look at it from my perspective. For me, it's 100% (1 for 1).

I'm just curious whether the Mercedes C-class coupe ever had problems with the panoramic sunroof. They also have the wind deflector like the TC. Does anyone know of any complaints for that car?

Well, in defense of Ford (wow, who'd ever say that? ), it was Firestone's problem, no?

This one is wholly on Toyota.

Its the Mitsubishi situation all over again*puts flamesuit on*

All companies have their problems, its just how the media takes to it(for example SOMEONE said mitsu was leaving in 2008...that spread, and led to a letter coming from Japan stating otherwise) what I'm trying to say is, all Toyota needs is a little damage control, and some time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes and BMW(peep the X3) had some special type of glass or just laminated theirs.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing about people complaining about the rattles. I realize they are annoying and yes I even have a small rattle in the rear. But honestly, this is a 17k car NOT a 45k Lexus. With all the options this car has for the price its a steal. Plus the rattles give you an excuse to crank the radio up.

I looked around on the edmunds C-class boards and some MB forums and the biggest problem with the C class roof is noises (sounds familiar) and problems with the motors. No stories of shattering that I could find.

Talk about a POS though....puts TC issues to shame.

except that fords have a million other issues. the most current are the trucks randomly catching on fire.. just like dodge

And the mitsu issues would not have been so bad if every other car they have other made wasnt plagued with issues.. I put them right there with chrysler and ford

Just a few more examples so you know that we are not driving the worst cars in the world (these are actual recalls, not investigations):

2005 5 series, 3 series, 05-06 6 and 7 series bmw: Issue with the car coming out of park and rolling down a hill due to the wrong grade of part used

ACURA / INTEGRA 1990-1993
ACURA / RSX 2002-2005
ANZO / HEADLAMP 9999
BMW / 3 SERIES 1992-1998
BMW / 5 SERIES 1992-1998
CHEVROLET / BLAZER 1995-1997
CHEVROLET / DENALI 2002-2003
CHEVROLET / SILVERADO 2003-2006
DODGE / CARAVAN 1996-2000
DODGE / RAM 2004 2006
FORD / EXPEDITION 2003-2006
FORD / F-150 1997-2001 2004-2006
FORD / MUSTANG 1994-1998
HONDA / ACCORD 1990-2006
HONDA / CIVIC 1992-2006
INFINITI / I30 2002
JEEP / GRAND CHEROKEE 1999-2004
MITSUBISHI / ECLIPSE 1995-1999
MITSUBISHI / LANCER 2003-2006
NISSAN / ALTIMA 2002-2004
NISSAN / FRONTIER 2001-2004
NISSAN / SENTRA 2000-2002
TOYOTA / COROLLA 2003-2006
TOYOTA / MATRIX 2003-2006
TOYOTA / SCION XB 2004-200

All because of headlights they installed that did NOT conform to federal regulations (no amber side reflectors in some)

Here is one that you tundra worriers will love:

2005 FERRARI / 612 : An airbag on/off switch that DOES NOTHING. Airbag is still on even though you turn it off.

2004-2005 HONDA / CIVIC SI: Improperly installed seatbelt anchors on some cars, improperly placing the seat belt position

Honda (again.. there are even more of the honda models with various recalls, but I wont list them all) Accord: Torn airbags upon installation. (This is one of FOUR recalls on that car)

Mercedes SLR Mclaren: Possible engine fire due to improperly design underhood components in close proximity to heat

Mercedes, various CLS, SL and E class vehicles: SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM MAY PREMATURELY SHIFT TO THE HYDRAULIC BACK-UP FUNCTION MODE, DUE TO DETERIORATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTION, OR DUE TO PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC PUMP.

MERCEDES / G55: Fuel leaks due to hoses that allow themselves to permeate with fuel

And for 2005 mitsubishis, you can pick from recalls on the eclipse, gallant, lancer and lancer evo for recalls.

And keep in mind, these are only a FEW of the recalls I just looked up, and they are ONLY recalls that affect 2005 model year cars. You could go on and on all night long if you keep looking them up.

It is pretty fun to do, but really shows you the types of issues that ALL companies are having in this mass production world.

Oh I don't disagree with you at all. You experienced something bad, and have every right to be concerned.

What I am saying is that this is not a reason for the rest of us tC owners to freak out, go sell our tCs, and trash the Toyota name, and never buy a Toyota again.

I am sure that the gm / ford / crysler "friendly" press and agencies will exploit every chance they get to bash Toyota or Honda.

Fact is that big 3 auto makers are in real trouble they have a serious image problem and they keep loosing customers. And the more gas prices stay high the less attractive their products look.

Fact is that my last 3 Japanese cars had less $$$ on repairs than my one Pontiac Grand am.

Did you guys notice that that blogger Talkinghead is not even a Scion owner (he says future scion owner). Funny how most of his posts are negative.

Are you a paid GM employee afraid of loosing your job?
